I think the whole "solved format" thing isn't really a problem unless you value brewing potential and novelty really highly, as long as the format is somewhat healthy.

My original idea was the battlefield, because I feel like that's more interesting? Sac outlets suddenly become more interesting for everyone, and Kaervek's Spite is suddenly an awesome way to finish out a game.

Really stupid idea: cube draft, but after the game is done you shuffle villain's battlefield into your library (and vice-versa).

I think it's a good thing because it helps remind new players that you really should be holding up mana for your second main phase.

The thing is that I like Imposing Sovereign (mostly due to nostalgia) and don't care one whit about Spider-Woman. Who the fuck is this lady? What's a "venom blast", and why is it represented by tapping stuff down as it comes into play? It'd be great if there was anything to tie that together...

This is a pretty cool idea! I do think that you're going to be limited to two-player drafts if you're treating it like a desert cube, because you'd need at least ten more lands for a three player draft unless the curve is really low (and that's not going to be the case with an EDH deck).
