    Sets The Hobbit

This set has been kind of disappointing so far. I like the new Gandalf, and Smaug would be cool at bulk rare prices, but there's very little in the rest of what we've seen, in my opinion, at least if you're not looking to Amass. Maybe there will be something cool towards the end!

I think the setting feeling fake is actually the point! This isn’t a natural alternate timeline, it’s one Jace specifically cooked up to “fix” some of the problems he caused in the multiverse over the past two decades. It feels artificial because it is artificial in-canon.

I think it makes sense honestly. Full-size UB sets are usually adapting source material that has the robust sort of storytelling you need for resonant Sagas. There's a reason the Saga cards that people remember from in-universe sets tend to be the ones representing specfic stories from planes...

A bunch of people keep insisting this card is terrible and I just think they're wrong. It's so easy to stack a billion counters on this thing that it seems like it could be quite potent to me. I don't think it's really a "Cube Card" in the traditional sense because it does require a bunch of...

Yeah no I would be willing to bet money that the reason no one is jumping to post about this set on most platforms is because the cards are mostly terrible.

D is definitely the most interesting of the bunch!

Charming Prince is just so much clearer and more reasonant than Ennis that I legitimately see no reason to ever play Ennis over Prince unless you specifically need something that blinks and also cares about +1/+1 counters at the same time.

Sad to see no more cards like Fleem, but also, I am very happy I will know what the card is across both platforms. Through the Omenpaths was horrible for being able to tell what cards online translated to paper.

Lowkey I am very surprised you have never tried Venser before. It seems like a perfect card for the CCC!

MaRo said on his blog that they're not going to be messing with the color pie in this set at all, so I would not be surprised if Mana Tithe style "this is technically in pie, but we don't normally do this" style cards are off the table.

This type of card design really annoys me. Addative distractions make adding these cards feel a lot worse: I wish they woukld just give us a 2/1 for 1 with a useful relevant upside or just go back to printing vanilla Savnnah Lions. As an example: The (only?) slam dunk: Recruitment Officer...

    General (SOS) Secrets of Strixhaven

"Aren't any good for Cube" seems like a bit of a stretch to me. The "front halves" on a lot of these are good enough for players to want to run, even if they aren't always casting the prepared spell side. Emeratus of Conflict is actually a good example of this; a 2/2 First Strike for {1}{R} is...

My guess: all of the hybrid mana symbols appear on cards that require one or more full pips of the colors, either in the main mana cost or as the cost for prepared spells.

    General (SOS) Secrets of Strixhaven

I think the design is sweet! 7 mana is just so much for a card that wants you to combo off after you play it, you know? I feel like the best use case is in cheating it out somehow and then trying to combo off, which doesn't necessarily feel worthwhile. It's kind of hard to imagine a Cube where...

    General (SOS) Secrets of Strixhaven

I think this is a fake render, but I can't say for sure. The resolution doesn't seem consistent across the image, but that could be due to compression weirdness. The post for this on the main subreddit was also removed, leading me to beleive this whole thing was just a fake leak or April Fools...
