I think Ornery Tumblewagg is more of the Luminarch Aspirant of this set. I actually think it looks like a more fun card than Aspirant, too! Bill Nye the Cactus Guy feels more like a land-synergy Tarmogoyf to me.

Hey, I think he’s Cute! Not every artist does a good job drawing him, but that’s true of every Magic character. Lore-wise we don’t know who Loot is beyond what Onder said— he’s a baby of some sort with a map of the multiverse in his head who was locked away in the Fomori Vault under suspended...

I think Counterspell would be the best card in Standard if they reprinted it today.

This card seems very good! I like these high-floor engine cards that don't necessarily require a ton of support to put into a deck, but are very strong when they are surrounded by an abundance of enablers!

Here's a question: is Slippery Bogle more powerful than Shock? It doesn't die to cheap removal. Heck, it doesn't die to any targeted removal! Likewise, is Slippery Bogle more powerful than Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer? Ragavan dies to a simple shock, but Bogle doesn't. Here's another question: is...

If you're looking for the card to see competitive play, no. We've lived in a world of two mana 8/9's for nearly twenty years. Honestly, it's a bit surprising that it has taken other baneslayery creatures so long to begin catching up.

Technically you can plop down two of these on turn five… if you plot them on turn four! ;)

I think you're supposed to plot it in order to get the ability. It seems completely unobtainable otherwise. Shark is going to have fewer people making... let's call them... inappropriate puns.

This has got to be one of my favorite cards in the set. Quench is a playable floor for a counterspell, but can feel a bit lacking without some extra oomph. This card, bringing in a flash Desert Drake mode and a decidedly less boomer nonsense Mystic Snake mode, definitely has that extra punch...

I don’t think so. Shivan Devastator is already a pretty hit-or-miss card, and this takes away one of its biggest advantages in favor of some weird treasure generation. To be fair, the Hydra is a much more interesting card than Shivan Devastator. Having Vigilance and Trample, being green, and...

It looks like they just “woke up” one day when all of the exotic magics from around the multiverse started flowing in to Thunder Junction.

This seems like it will be cute in limited with all of the plot cards and Prairie Dog. Nurturing Faerie is a lot more interesting when you put it that way! I do wish it could bounce lands, though. This card could be good! It's a very cool design. Spree is such a great mechanic. When it was...

Fun fact: this is the first 2/2 for {1}{U} with no downside! With most colors, it was just a vanilla creature, but for Blue, they decided to do something special! To be fair, I think this card needed to be a 2/2 for 1U in order to have any chance at being good. Saddle 3 is a steep price to pay...

Atherpunk just makes no sense on the Wild West. The only reason Steampunk can work with a western setting is because the Wild West era was essentially the height of the Steam era.

Everything Wrong with Thunder Junction. 1. Terra Nullius Terra Nullius is a latin phrase meaning "nobody's land." It is a trope often associated with the harsh territories that were settled during the 19th and early 20th centuries, like Australia and the American West: Wide open spaces...

Everyone wearing a cowboy hat is actually historically accurate. I'm not kidding. Ever since the first Cowboy hat, the "Boss of the Plains" hat, was invented by John B. Stetson in 1865, it became indispensable for most settlers out west. Cowboy hats were good at keeping a person protected from...
