General (BRO) The Brother's War Spoilers

The names, all the time. The text is fine. But we tell cards by art anyway, so it's more of an ugly thing when you're taking a picture with only the names revealed.

General Macroarchetype Cube or: Who's the Beatdown Cube

Here's what I'm thinking: - Lots of glue cards that work in all archetypes - Good amount of board wipes that curb aggro - Good amount of resilience for aggro to curb control - Good amount of disruption to curb control My intention is that aggro must build with board wipes in mind. There might...

General Macroarchetype Cube or: Who's the Beatdown Cube

By the way, I recognize this is "basically what a lot of other people do", but I bet people who work within constraints of microarchetypes would have valuable insight into what it means NOT to have that constraint.

General Macroarchetype Cube or: Who's the Beatdown Cube

Both, are they at odds? Sounds like the second requires the first to me. I'm open to any power level on principle, but I believe a high power level clashes with the requirement of all colors supported in all macro archetypes. At the end of the day, the best control decks possible are blue. The...

General Macroarchetype Cube or: Who's the Beatdown Cube

I've been thinking of developing this idea again, as the Elegant Cube once was a non-micro archetype cube (besides some strategies like reanimator and ramp which were sort of emergent microarchetypes in Magic's history). The archetypes that were actually supported were aggro, control, midrange...

I do think it's a significant dial back, 2-drop vs 3-drop is a huge difference, even larger for these cards that snowball. I might try Siege Veteran, it might be on the high side of the power band for the Elegant Cube but I don't think it's warping like Luminarch Aspirant.

Oona's Prowler and Smuggler's Copter are the 3 power fliers I can think of. Those are pretty good. I think this is strong and archetype defining but not too good for modern magic.

Eh, I like that when the modes are simple enough. Deans are terrible, but Adventures are great. Prototype is super clean, not sure how to you indicate the creature is prototyped on paper but it's just two possible states. Modality is really important in Magic because we are somewhat short on...

    The Elegant Cube v5

Seriously considering renaming the Elegant Cube as the name doesn't feel like it reflects the cube well anymore. Is it crazy if I want to call it "A Box of Chocolates"? “My mom always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.” - Forrest Gump With occasionals...

    General [GRN] Guilds of Ravnica

It's a 2-color card you want to play in a monocolor deck though... I like Rallying Roar much better in this role, and I don't even like it at all. Edit: Responding to LadyMapi, I didn't play limited at the time, but it looks cute with Thundersong Trumpeter, and actually decent in Ravnica...

Wojek Embermage This one is fine too, obviously low powered but it's a pretty good pinger that controls tokens really well. Edit: wait, that costs one more mana than I thought. Ok, that's really bad.

    The Smooth Twin Cube

Oh yeah, that's a good idea provided it's easy to tell the difference to quickly sort out the matte vs glossy for Occasionals. Might be overkill for twinned cubes, this part really hasn't been a big problem to me, but it would prevent some possible mix-ups. Ingenious! I don't have anything...

    The Smooth Twin Cube

I hadn't considered that, interesting idea! However I think it'll take more time to remove from and put back the cards into the larger sleeve than to search them in the small piles and put them back there. Plus, shuffling 360 is significantly harder than shuffling 180 cards. Bold of you to...

General Post your Favourite Unusual Archetype/s

I just made the rule "all lands have cycling {2}" in the Smooth Twin cube and it worked perfectly well to avoid mana flood. I'm being less of a purist with this cube and pretty much everything weird I tried went well. Without actually changing the rules of the game, I like having lots of mana...

    General CBS

If you ignore all else (especially the infinite Commander products and secret lairs), have the 4 regular sets been worse in the last couple years? 2017 - Aether Revolt - Amonkhet - Hour of Devastation - Ixalan 2018 - Rivals of Ixalan - Core Set 2019 - Dominaria - Guilds of Ravnica 2019 -...

    The Smooth Twin Cube

I know, strange card and was the only Old-Bordered card in the whole cube! Now Nefashu is keeping it company, and is even weirder. The idea is that I wanted a Clerics payoff that's playable by itself. Also, bonus for being a payoff that's not simply a +1/+1 lord. In this environment the 4th...

[500] CCC - Casual Champions Cube

There's this while category of cards that can produce infinite value when mana is not a bottleneck (players are out of cards to play) and then they might feel in some games like they are broken, but if there are enough of them, having mana sinks is just a fact of the environment and a good one...

    The Smooth Twin Cube

Update 0.4 Got in another 4 (!) drafts since last the post. Not much new to add, they just reinforced what I wrote above; the Twin structure is working really really well, but bashing 2/2s into 2/2s gets boring. Time to make a bunch of swaps! 36 out of 180 pairs (20%) are being changed, which...

    General (M30) M30 Previews / Spoilers

You could be easily be looking at $30 for a Paralyze proxy. I'd like to get my hands on a modern-worded Paralyze, but I don't think I'd pay more than $2 for it. I think it's likely we just see very low liquidity in singles, and very high prices (higher EV than $999 even), but you can't actually...

Black Lotus Nice synergy piece for a cogs deck, I expect people who run Emry might want this. Not so good with Cranial Plating, and obviously the power level isn't great as it puts you a card behind. Savannah Lions What an elegant Kytheon, I love it! This set is really delivering on white aggro.
