Sets [DMH] Duskmourn: House of Horror

Oh hello! Solid baseline stats with a very obtainable recursion condition. Kill an opponent’s creature and swing for 3 or aristocrat your stuff and attack. Zombie creature type is always a plus, but that art is an eyesore. Barf!

Sets [DMH] Duskmourn: House of Horror

This guy looks fun! There are a lot of decisions around it. - You can play it after blockers to surprise draw cards (one per creature!). - You can use it as a flash blocker. - Play it as a threat in a control mirror EOT. - Use it as sacrifice fodder and still have it stick around. This is a...

    Nanonox's 1vs1 cube

Thanks for sharing! Your question had me thinking of why I went in the noncreature payoff direction and this is what I've got. I see two "obvious" approaches: 1. Have a majority of noncreature payoffs with a few specific ones to pull you into a specific archetype (spells, artifacts...

I think I like Mockingbird here. It's a scalable evasive threat which seems perfect for a lower powered cube. I can either apply pressure early or respond to my opponent late.

I was experimenting with a cube that was Dragons vs Phyrexians vs Legends. Your historic idea would have been a boon as it would have allowed me to use artifacts and sagas to diversify the archetypes. You could have something similar where it's Dragons (or whatever) vs Eldrazis with the historic...

Do you increase the size of the draft pool to account for the 3 extra creatures you need per Chimera?

    Nanonox's 1vs1 cube

You are right that it is easy, even if symmetrical. If I am to stay consistent and exclude Opposition because of how easy it is to use, then Armageddon should stay out as well. As I usually do when exploring an archetype, I push hard then scale back. I am now leaning towards not actually...

    Nanonox's 1vs1 cube

That's really cool as initially it was from Erik's, inscho's, dbs's and your cubes that I drew inspiration, will gladly steal more ideas :P. First thing I notice is that you were brave enough to go down to 360. I've been meaning to, but keep postponing as cuts are tough. I'd love to hear your...

I see people taking Yawgmoth’s Will before LED and I would do the opposite. Breach, draw 7s, Auriok Salvagers all work with it giving you more outs than with Yawg’s Will (Dark Ritual being the other for Will). I would have taken Mana Leak and Mishra’s Factory from ravnic’s cube. Low commitment...

I like that your sacrifice deck has payoffs that produce mana, making an Eldrazi/sacrifice deck plausible (missing a few sac outlets IMO though). I think it would be cool to have that apply to other archetypes like spells matter as an example. You are doing it a little with Inspired Tinkering...

I think you have to distinguish what you mean by higher power level. My cube is high power level and includes two types of broken cards. Some are cards you need to build around like Fastbond, Wheel of Fortune and Yawgmoth's Will. These category of cards would be ok IMO for your cube (not these...

I kept forgetting which creature this reminded me of. Now I remember Araumi of the Dead Tide With Emperor of Bones and Araumi, there might be enough density to support a small theme!

Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

I don’t know about that. With the Landfall cards especially, you can steal games out of nowhere. Felidar Retreat and Hedron Crab are cards I tend to slot into my slower lands decks and Aftermath Analyst or Second Sunrise will close the game real quick. Same with Titania + sacrifice outlet, you...

    Nanonox's 1vs1 cube

I drafted what might be the best shell for Molten Vortex and it's just ok? I feel like the other land synergies are more powerful if you can get them off and Six + Seal of Fire kind of steals the spotlight as both cards are very much playable by themselves. Ones 1 Mishra's Bauble 1 Urza's...

    Zanzibari Cats

I would slot in these two before Empty the Warrens Chatterstorm Crow Storm Being a full mana or two cheaper means you can more easily get away with smaller storm counts and they are easier to recur. I really like these because they play so well with creature mana generation like Earthcraft and...

100% agree, but the Emperor is more exciting for me because the ceiling is so high. Through the Breaching a big creature every turn with a counter theme is really cool and it it’s a self-contained engine with the Adapt and the GY exile. That said, it’s too complex I think for it to earn its spot.

I love the art and vibe of this set. This to me is close to peak MTG that I fell in love with. It has some elegant and simple card designs alongside great art. I won't be testing as much from other sets, but I really don't mind and still enjoy what this set brings to the table. Includes Kitsa...

I am pretty pumped for this one in my MP cube. You now have Molten Gatekeeer, Warleader's Call, Impact Tremors to make a theme (or token payoff) out of it. There is OG Purphoros, but 2 damage is too easy for my liking. Didn't expect a Storm payoff in White! Finishing a Storm turn with a 5...

The classes are fantastic in this set. A 1/1 prowess for a single Blue mana that also triggers your other prowess cards. Then you have a mana sink a win condition.

    Nanonox's 1vs1 cube

I hadn't considered that angle, but it does look appealing there for sure. The only downside is that between Pyrite Spellbomb, Legion Extruder and Seal of Fire, it eats away at the instant and sorcery count in Red, so I have to stay mindful of that. I agree that it isn't trivial, but at the...
