General (LTR / LTC) Lord of the Rings Testing/Includes Mega Thread!

For Minas Tirith, I don't know if it has to be particularly efficient to be good. I see it as a card that aggro decks only activate when they're out of gas and need just another card to close things out, and at that point the efficiency doesn't matter all that much. It also helps disguise a...

Some cards in the image gallery are pretty cool. Shall we? Nobody is talking about Old Man Willow, and I think that's a damn shame. He's a Golgari Goodstuff critter through and through and suffers from needing to untap, but is the cheapest "p/t are equal to your land count" creature yet and...

Moralist/Sorry Cop reporting in, just as expected! I have mixed feeling about that game, but it's a great novel.

Sets (LTR) The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth

Blistering hot centrist take here, but I think I need to try The Ring Tempts You before I make any decisions about it in the same way that I needed to play a bit of AFR to understand Dungeons--and I mean this on both mechanical and flavor axes. There are some mechanics we can draw good analogies...

    General Basic Lands

The first one stylistically looks like the remnants of a skyship like the Predator and the Weatherlight, but I can't be sure of the rest. My best guess is that it's the Predator, which crashed into the Cabal Stronghold at the end of its arc. However, there are other things in the background, so...

Looks like a cycle of utility lands! They all look pretty dang strong, too. I have only a few 1/2 cmc legendary creatures but I like the idea of having legendary as a slight buildaround. The art is also great. Looking forward to testing these.

That's Rivendell--Lothlorien is where we see Galadriel.

General Aggro-specific removal; or, Lightning Bolt vs. Lightning Strike

How do you tweak a removal section to buff or nerf certain kinds of decks? There are some obvious answers--Wraths support control decks and creatures with ETB triggers support midrange decks--but removal designed to slot into aggro decks has been harder to pin down for me. There are, of course...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Time of Ice is shockingly good, as are most of the Dominaria sagas. Rusje is right that it can be used against you to reset an ETB, but you can easily take advantage of your opponent's greed by saving a combat trick for that bad attack out of their Priest of Ancient Lore. It also gets extra...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Making it a fight instead of a bite allows for the opponent to set up cool counterplay story moments and might allay some concerns around power level. Nifty card, though.

    Design Diary: Cooperative Deckbuilder

Why not do both? Have an individual deck and a shared deck with cards that cycle into each as circumstances demand. Card backs being different could even let savvy players count cards--you could make that a feature and not a bug. You could flavor it as the individual deck representing yourself...

    General "Looking for a card"-Thread

I don't think that Ravnic's account was hacked, I think that the new user (bot?) just inserted the link into the quote text. The original post is unchanged.

General Major change to Standard: Cards rotate slower

Gotta love it when it's time for the rotation schedule to rotate out. How long has this one been around, five years?

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Context matters. If I have a Sarinth Steelseeker then even just one trigger can be backbreaking, but if it's just a generic value piece then the break-even is probably at 2.5 or whatever with 2 being tolerable and 3 being quite good. That is to say, it really matters whether your drafters pick...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I'm a fan of it as a way to get Green into both spellslinger and artifacts while expending relatively little real estate. I'm not saying it's not clunky, but it's a worthwhile bit of clunk. It's also worth noting that it's best played as a 4-drop alongside a critter, so I'd mentally bump it up...

Sets (LTR) The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth

My guess is backwards compatibility. Look at how much of a pain it is that the characters from the WH40K decks are Astartes and not humans, but picture that in a Modern where tribal can actually play a role.

Oh, I was reacting to I'm not quite as against Tenpted By The Ring as Mown is, but it sure looks like a lot of mechanics that I've not enjoyed. Maybe mistaken identity, maybe another thread? Idk. But! We have cards now!! I underestimated Wizard's Rockets until Onderzeeboot framed it as a...

General (MOM) March of the Machines Testing/Includes Thread!

Sorry, that's not the post I was replying to. I thought that LadyMapi's list of interesting ZNR non-mythic DFCs was a little scant and so I wanted to append a few I like. Of course, I'm an absolute DFC freak, apart from werewolves, so my opinion might be a little biased.
