I've been waiting for a more playable version of Azorius Aethermage in U/W for quite some time! At least to me, "gating" is a fun mechanic that has a lot of room to grow. Great signal card for it!

Haha, definitely the latter :) And correct, I think those kinds of devils are great for some of the interactions in red & black especially, deathtouch being especially brutal since you get combat damage AND the death trigger. Also, works just great as sac fodder with any other type of pinging...

I like the 1W first strike prowess myself. Like Chris mentions, blocking is a dangerous proposition, but I love the ninjitsu interaction there (if that's in the cube); balances the decision back to incentivising blocking and also first strike + ninjitsu is just dope. Niche, but dope.

In that case... I upgraded to a foil one of these for the flavor text alone! Best decision ever. Also, pre-Mirrodin frames look gorgeous in foil.
