Yeah I largely agree. I think Norn's Wellspring looks like it could be pretty good but I'm not 100% sold. Not a fan of Mandible Justiciar? mandible justiciar I think this looks like a super sweet low-power artifacts payoff. It can get huge, gain life, and clearly signal the artifact theme.

Makes sense, I'm also not playing many of the oil cards for the same reason. The only major exception I'm looking at right now is Mercurial Spelldancer, and that's only because it's a perfect Blue 2-drop. Are you eschewing the noncreature oil cards as well?

Siege Rhino To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Siege Rhino. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics, most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rhino's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his...

Emrakul being trapped in the moon is why the day/night cycle on Innistrad got screwed up, leading to the eternal midnight that had to be undone in the Midnight Hunt/Crimson Vow story arc. While we didn't see any actual Eldrazi, emrakul-influenced Horrors and her presence in the moon were...

Out of curiosity, why are you against using Oil counters? Are there just too many words since the card has to define what it's doing with the counters?

Hey sorry for not replying to this sooner, I got busy with school and forgot about it again until reading back through the forums :p. Ok good, we're on the same page. I definitely think the tempo bottleneck in some formats does change the calculus on cards like Path and Thalia (one mana makes...

LIGHTNING HELIX IT'S LIGHTNING HELIX (OH MY GAAAWWWWDDD!!!) (Not the same tournament or even format as the famous Lightning Helix moment I'm referencing, but still, same card).

I think you make some salient points about Nissa, Ascended Animist's floor that I had failed to consider in my initial evaluation. I still think Nissa, Who Shakes the World is a better card in general (Usman Jamil calls her "The Queen of Green Planeswalkers," and I still feel inclined to agree)...

Well said! My fixing is still worse than yours because I am still using a singleton mana base (for the time being), but I think we're still broadly trying to support similar color breakdowns.

I think it's too context dependent to say definitvely. The increase in win rate from casting the bomb would need to offset the loss in consistency from having to support a deck with more colors than intended for the format. The win rate advantage to playing fewer colors than a format's mana base...

I agree with the first part of this for sure. My point with talking about Prismatic Vista was that it's a lot better at maintaining a mana base with mostly light pip costs (like {1}{R}, {2}{U}, {3}{W}) as opposed to heavier costs ({1}{B}{B}, {U}{R}{W}, {G}{G}{G}). It's going to be difficult to...

Going off of this, I think a contributing factor to the appropriate number of gold cards in a given environment is the type of fixing in a Cube. In addition to the quantity and quality of fixing in an environment, how fixing is designed can dictate how difficult it can be to play a second or...

It's more that it's an essential tool for Cube designers who want to encourage artifact decks working with noncreature artifacts. There really are not a lot of cards that act as payoffs for specifically doing noncreature artifact shenanigans– they're mostly cards that turn noncreature artifacts...

Dragon's Rage Channeler Dragon's Rage Channeler is probably my favorite payoff for noncreature artifacts. Its surveil ability rewards you for playing noncreature artifacts, fueling your graveyard and helping you to find your other best cards. The delirium ability turns the channeler into a real...

That's certainly not a sentence you hear every day (despite the fact that it's correct when reflecting upon the statement). 5 is a lot of mana if the card doesn't literally say "win the game" in some formats (*cough* Modern *cough*)

Nissa, Ascended Animist I know this is a slightly older post at this point, but the more I think about this new Nissa the less I like her. I thought this might be an interesting discussion. I think this Nissa is good when she's able to win the game with her faux-craterhoof impression. While I...

Awww, I got disappointed there for a second. I thought there were going to be more cool new cards! That's... actually significantly less than I thought... only about one thing per month. I bet if Unfinity and Warhammer 40k had released when they were supposed to instead of getting pushed back...
