The main issue with Pack Rats is the issue with Thopter Foundry+Sword of the Meek or Oketra's Monument+Kor Skyfisher — once you get the "combo" online, it leads to some pretty repetitive play patterns.

Rhythm of the Wild + Wildfire. There's your degenerate persist combo deck. ;)

I feel like it can work, especially if you fill the Box with a higher density of pip-heavy cards. It'd certainly have a different feel to it, which is entirely what I'm here for.

I'm actually starting to think that Battle Box might be a better basis for my weirdo formats.

New Capenna was really disappointing because it followed a mechanically interesting set (with tons of overlapping themes) with a pretty standard "here are the five factions, with their five faction mechanics" set-up.

Japanese is arguably worse, to pick an obvious example. Then you get stuff like Manx (English + Irish = why), Navajo (aka "Hey, can you leave some vowels for the rest of us?"), or Cherokee (to be fair, the person who invented written Cherokee was literally illiterate).

Just make all scrying in your cube into surveil! Nothing could be easier. (What's that? Custom cards? Nah, changing the rules is easier, and never-ever has unforeseen side-effects!)
