Sorry, I was thinking of Limited as opposed to Constructed as a whole, not really about retail limited. I just see time and time again that people don't draft lands in cube. And I feel the only reason I have had success with Field of the Dead is because people don't and I pick them all up...

I like Field of the Dead in Limited but it only works because people don't draft lands and you can end with 5-colour abominations with 12 different non-basics. I don't think it works with anyone who knows a third-pick Volcanic Island is great.

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I think Phoenix of Ash is extremely easy to recur for an easy win. Three cards are very few, you'll hit much higher numbers just by playing your creatures and burn spells. If they fail to have a blocker or several removal spells, you can easily knock out half of their health with it. I don't...

Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

Today I took all my proxies, lack of red and everything, and played with a friend at the club. He really liked grid drafting and confessed he was very sceptic of the idea of drafting with two before trying. It was a chance to actually play the cube in person instead of just theorizing. I do...

Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

The thing is: Is it really something my decks want? I can see it being a good second-tier card for Wildfire decks and non-blue control. I'm going to consider this: Hornet Queen -> Avenger of Zendikar Fact or Fiction -> Careful Consideration This one is odd. I think FoF is a lot of fun...

    General "Looking for a card"-Thread

I wanted to give Hatchery Spider a try because it ties into graveyard themes and actually works in value reanimtor. The issue is that it says "green permanent" and that makes it extremely like it will just fizzle. It's true that Reanimator and other "cheat" strategies limit what you can put on...

It is hard. There actually aren't that many cards and not being broken with reanimation cuts some of the best picks. Some cards that have caught my eye are: Better: Decimator of the Provinces Moldgraf Monstrosity Penumbra Wurm Protean Hulk That said, I can just remove the card and add a...

Terastodon is busted given how easy it is to reanimate. Same with the Persist guy that destroys permanents. That limits things a lot, sorry for being imprecise.

I want a green seven or perhaps eight drop to replace Hornet Queen. I've looked at most options but they all seem bleh. Any suggestions for my cube?

Now that you are superpopular I would love to hear what you think of the decks people draft and how they approach the process. Have you noticed anything interesting? :)

Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

I'm really glad to hear that Nanonox, I appreciate it:) I think there's a possibility of extending artifacts to all colours and hence artifact aggro in Boros. At a glance, this would not diminish my artifact-based archetypes as the payoffs would still be in URB, but it could make the cube more...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

The Gitrog Monster How busted is this when you can recur fetchlands and it doesn't blow up in the spot? Because it seems it can draw a massive amount of cards very quickly.

I like your tempo section, seems like you can build some good decks with what you already have. I think you might need to think outside the box a bit given your cube is multiplayer-focused and give it a couple gimmicks if you want to boost it a little bit more. For example, you could increase...

Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

My last three additions were fantastic. It might seem like a small change but it has done a lot for the cube. Here's the thing: Before blue and green had to splash a third color just to have some basic functionality. It's a huge ask because all you want is one removal spell or two. And while...

Card/Deck Artifacts in Cube - Yes, but how?

I've been following the principles of the other thread and this one, but I'm not fully happy with artifacts in my cube. Seems something's wrong with my blue section but I can't put my finger on it. For example, I've drafted Tinker only to find it wanting and Urza only to find it was a bad...

    General Tinkerer's Cube (MTGA)

I decided to check the cube again and it just doesn't work. It has some good stuff in it, but it's incredibly unpolished. I lost a game with 12 creatures on the board of size 3 and more because I couldn't attack and my opponent had gained more than 40 life. That just shouldn't happen. Had draws...

    General Fight Club

My big worry with Jinxed Idol is that it turns into Sulfuric Vortex. After all, you can sacrifice a creature that is going to die to removal anyways so there's little cost to it. Altar of Dementia seems very strong to me. I'm very wary of mill effects in cube in limited because there's a real...

Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

Ok, let's do some changes. Would something like this work? Seems like it should: Char -> Blind with Anger Exclude -> Psionic Blast Wildborn Preserver -> Ambush Viper I don't know if Blind with Anger works at my power level. I know it's better than it reads because the instant speed is huge...

Jinxed Idol vs Helm of Possession Would love to hear your thoughts in this one. The idol seems stronger on paper and it seems to put a harder limit on control. But perhaps I should see how it plays compared to the Helm.

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Interestingly enough, I looked through all the cards with buyback this morning. Sprout Swarm Haze of Rage Mystic Speculation Whispers of the Muse Slaughter Sprout Swarm is a very cool design. It's not overpowering if, like Ravnic says, you have a way to actually use the tokens and push...
