    General Timespiral Remastered Timeshifts

Standard playing cards will usually have the indices top left (and bottom right) making Onderzeeboot’s fan more natural to anyone coming to magic from poker, bridge or rummy. Am I the only one slightly bothered by Phyrexian and hybrid mana on the 7th Edition card frames? Probably no more than...

    General Favorite Planeswalker Cards?

Nissa, Voice of Zendikar is not excessively powerful but supports three of my four green-based archetypes: WG tokens; UG counters; and RG lands matter.

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Not in cube, but my memory from casual magic back in the day was that it was a magnet for removal, and more often than not you would rather play Concentrate, which isn’t saying much.

    General Fight Club

Probably not relevant, but Somnophore doesn’t require combat damage. Enchant it with a Quicksilver Dagger and go to town.

Thorn Elemental! I returned to Magic during 7th and still have my copy somewhere. I had it in a terrible reanimator deck and thought it was brilliant. Tornado Elemental is another supertrample option that also hoses fliers.

So much flavour. Until now I have chosen not to break the singleton rule in my cubes, but I want to give Cosima the chance to go voyaging on her ship. I love how the abilities interact, allowing Cosima to return from her travels stronger and wiser from the lands visited.

Such an article would certainly be of theoretical interest, but few people will go on to build a cube as you describe. Where it could really be of practical use is to take lessons learned from a set design. For example, if I want to include massive creatures in my cube, what does Ikoria teach...

    General The Best Card Sleeves

The cube shells look good. I was thinking of getting some for my Jumpstart cube. Would they hold 20 single sleeved cards ok?

    Card/Deck The Saga of Cubing

Do you mean that they help because they are enchantments that send themselves to the graveyard, because they don’t count as a separate type. I also love sagas, because they tell little stories.

I liked the recent overlap between Wizards tribal and instants/sorceries, e.g. [[Relic Amulet]]. Something similar could be done with Artificers/Artifacts, Shamans(?)/Enchantments, Druids/Lands, Nobles/Conspiracies...

I think the eyepatch is a reference to Odin sacrificing his eye to Mimir’s well in exchange for a drink of its waters, which granted him wisdom and foresight (hence scrying).

Scryfall. id=bgu is:commander substitute other wubrg combinations for bgu as needed. There’s a page on search syntax for other logic terms, once you get the hang of it it’s quite powerful.

General Interesting Cards at High Power Levels

Cards that are/were in my cube: Sulfuric Vortex - Is it unfun? That depends on your view of red-heavy aggro. In a high power cube it gives inevitability and diversity to these decks as a repeating source of damage that is not a creature. Midrange and control can sometimes buy time with...

    Sets Kaldheim Charade

Skatharvosk sounds a little like a combination of Ratatosk, the squirrel who lived in Yggdrasil, the world tree, and Nidhogg, the beast that gnawed on Ygdrassil’s root. It feels like the sort of bastardised Norse mythology I’d expect from WotC’s creative team. Oko’s back, and this time at a...

General Zendikar Rising - Magic Panel

That sounds like a plausible twist on the quest mechanism using current magic technology. It would need to be distinct from the Ixalan transform lands. Maybe the cards could start off as lands (and so trigger Landfall) then transform into the permanent unearthed at that location. Lands that...

    General Jumpstarting your cube drafts

That looks like a near perfect Jumpstart to me, Brad. There’s plenty of synergy within the pack, but it is open ended enough to interact with whatever it gets paired with. And it’s all tied together with a strong nautical flavour. You just need to make sure you use the Ixalan printing of Opt.

    General Midrange and You

I tend to think of midrange as being board/battlefield advantage. It beats aggro by having beefier creatures, and is beaten by control which can use removal/counters to keep the board clear.

    General Jumpstarting your cube drafts

On CubeCobra you can tag each pack and then sort by tag. Until a specific function comes along, this can help organise your jumpstart cube. I’m using .Packname to separate from other tags. Here is my (very early) example https://cubecobra.com/cube/list/5ef12eb2aa92c05fea5dbf39 I’m planning...

    Sets Jumpstart Previews

From another thread... I’m curious what you mean by Jumpstart being a way to create a cube. Are you suggesting taking 24 Jumpstart boosters, shuffling everything except the basic lands together, and using that as a cube, trusting WotC to have included enough cross synergies to make it work? Or...

    Sets Jumpstart Previews

Is there anyone else who’s intrigued by the challenge of designing their own jumpstart packs? I’m thinking along the lines of maybe 10 half-decks of 20 cards, each designed to have unique interactions with whichever other half-deck it’s paired with. It could be a more portable alternative to...
