    The Elegant Cube

Update 4.7.3 In: Immaculate Magistrate Out: Hardened Scales With counters supported in white and the new proliferate cards in green (Evolution Sage and Pollenbright Druid), there are too many counters payoffs already, and the archetype is one of the best supported. I can do away with...

    General CBS

Yeah, it's quite strong, but I need more drafts to tell if it is _too_ strong. Somehow, it was sideboarded in all drafts I ran since added it. I run a wider power band than most, and this is intended to be close to the top. I visualize cards as points inside a sphere that is the color, and...

General Name of archetype shape contained in a single color

The shape of archetypes that are contained in a single color (such as {R} Burn or {G} Elves) have a somewhat controversial name.

I'm testing {W}{U} Tappers as an archetype, but haven't had enough drafts to conclude how it performs. Relic Seeker Squall Drifter Topan Freeblade Gideon's Avenger Territorial Hammerskull Elite Scaleguard Sentinel of the Eternal Watch Sunblast Angel Blinding Beam Take Vengeance Eternal of...

It sounds like a feasible sphere archetype (look at me citing myself), payoffs I think are reasonable are: Fell Specter Liliana's Caress The Rack Raiders' Wake Sangromancer Shrieking Affliction Waste Not There are some pretty serious issues with it, though: Including enough discard to...

    General Archetype Shapes

Onderzeeboot's amazing post is spot on. Although I haven't drafted Modern Horizons, the limited decklists I've seen corroborate his analysis. That's a pivot pair archetype. The genius is that off-color lands as the archetype's enablers are a bleed that feels natural, elegant, and has a small...

    General "Looking for a card"-Thread

I'd look for mass removal because that's the best tool that white offers to control, blockers to contain aggro and force it to overextend, instant spot removal to feel safe hold unused counterspell mana up, an enchantment that provides value over time, and a finisher. For example: Kirtar's...

    General Archetype Shapes

GalacticTraveler12 suggested the name "tetra" for the archetypes supported in four colors instead of the clunky "tetrahedron." I edited the post to reflect that, thanks GalacticTraveler12!

    General Broad Archetypes

I officially approve of "tetra". Abzan +1/+1 Counters sounds reasonable, but I think that setting triangle subthemes inside the tetra archetype is indistinguishable from a triangle archetype outside it. It will play more like another layer of archetypes over the tetra archetypes.

    Sets [M20] Core Set 2020

I'm really curious about how strong Rotting Regisaur will be in cube. I think it will be amazing in graveyard decks, but in other decks the lack of evasion will make it pretty tame. I don't think it will be GRBS. Looking forward to try it.

    Sets [M20] Core Set 2020

I like core sets. 4th edition was what brought me into magic. Magic 2011 was what brought me into cubing. Modern core sets have resonant designs without the added baggage of non-evergreen mechanics. It's Magic at its purest form, and great cube cards come from them. Atemsis, All-Seeing...

    General Archetype Shapes

A bit eerie how Maro's article came out on the following day explaining how Core Set 2020 is structured as 5 wedge triangle archetypes - though a bit modified to have two primary and one secondary color per archetype - and what the means for drafting...

    General Community cuts thread

Mycoloth Either runs away with the game or feels bad. It doesn't feel right to your cube's power level. Constant Mists Turns games that are already lost into an hour-long loss. The game becomes a painful hopeless grind much more often than it creates interesting situations.

    General Archetype Shapes

I don't have many idols, but that actually does flatter me. :D Are there enough good green humans? It's the color in which my cube has always had the least amount of humans. I had Mayor of Avabruck at some point, which made the archetype be a double pivot: a strong one in white and a weak one...

    General Archetype Shapes

Archetype Shapes (pt. 2) Introduction This is a follow-up to Archetype Shapes, discussing two important, broader archetype shapes that dbs pointed out I did not include: pentagram archetypes and tetrahedron "tetra" archetypes. Pentagram archetypes An archetype present in all five...

    General Archetype Shapes

Archetype Shapes Introduction This post talks about archetype shapes, representing designs of which colors the archetype spans. When designing a cube with synergies, is it common to have an archetype layout of 10 pair archetypes. Another popular archetype layout is 5 triangle archetypes...
