I think spikeshot is more of a low power/durdly red control card. I never understood why generic zero liked him so much until I slotted him into the penny cube (low power and grindy), with its creature buffs, and it finally had the the time to start wreaking people. I've lost to it multiple...

    The Penny Pincher Cube (360)

Hey, got a PM asking me a few questions, and wanted to make a general response as it touched upon some data that might be relevant for people picking cards for their own cube. 1. Namely, about heroic and, specifically, U/W heroic. The sum, as alluded to in another thread, is that I've not been...

I would also be interested in some ideas for cards that "feel like a wrath but can attack" as lucre put it. I would probably run skeletal over kokusho at this point, but something higher power would be cool.

I can't help but feel that a big part of that is the lack of cheap efficent sac outlets: as demonstrated by the discussion in your cube thread. Goblin bombardment and pod are the only two I can really get excited about, and that puts LTBs in an awkward spot-especially high cc LTBs. Back when...

I think what I find interesting is how people feel about ETBs. If a version of kokusho was releaed with an ETB life swing, rather than a death trigger, does that bump it up to something "cubeable"? Its the idea that kokusho needs synergy to be good, and dosen't apply enough value, since it...

I don't. I had never heard the term french vanilla before. I also wasn't being judgmental: it just goes to ahabas original question of how things have changed. I don't think many people in 2005 playing the game would have viewed kokusho as vanilla, but in 2015 he feels vanilla. Thats...

I think it says something all on its own that we are describing kokusho as a vanilla creature.

That deck looks so much better with titania than when i ran baloths, especially with safekeeper.

If you are running bouncelands, you could scale up your ramp to effects that untap bouncelands. So stuff like og garruk and frantic search-its slower ramp but the ceiling on it is much higher. I still think honored hierarch is pretty bad. Also lotus cobra would be great with bounclands.

A good question, and actually got me thinking of this comparison: skeletal vampire grave titan Both cards come from the same blueprint: army in a can control finishers, and skeletal is arguably better as it blocks more things. However, skeletal dosen't have the same condensing effect...

    Rasmus Riptide Cube (360 Unpowered)

I don't think thats really a pod deck because you want it to be a creature focused deck that dosen't deviate far beyond 3cc. I would imagine it being able to dip into red or black for sac. outlets and playing an attrition value aggro game with the threat of comboing out with anafenza, kin-tree...

    Rasmus Riptide Cube (360 Unpowered)

How about a G/W deck averaging around 2-3cc that uses collected company and rally the ancestors as a sort of value aggro-combo deck?

Do you have a sample lynx deck I could see? Sounds intetesting. I vaguely remember drafting similar sounding decks back in the day, but feeling lynx was the worst part of it.

    Card/Deck Black Sheep

Good call on guided strike-i think i'm going to cut defiant strike in favor of it in the penny cube. I have mixed feelings on heroic: I think its a nice mechanic to run to cement a relationahip between small creatures and pump, but you really have to run a high density of tricks to create a...

    Eric Chan's Modern cube (405)

In the various iterations of my formats garg has gone from a solid first pick to something that should wheel. It had its glory days as a combo piece with balance, and even now it feels like a medium card to me, though its obviously much better in slow formats where getting a free 9/7 and being...

I think defiant strike really needs heroic to make the cut, and even than its much narrower than other heroic enablers you could run.

    Innistrad Themed Cube: 360 Unpowered

Also, since we are graveyard focused, I was considering some kind of morph package like this: deathmist raptor deathmist raptor den protector rattleclaw mystic hooded hydra silumgar assassin grim haruspex

Hey, sorry for the late reply. I was adding in a lot of the feedback, and its been a pretty busy week for me, but thanks everyone for the drafts. I think there has been some solid upgrades. I still have demonic pact in and past in flames, and want them in, but am pretty unsure about how well...

I should have included ink-eyes, servant of oni in my RGD era comparison. Do you think it depends on format speed? Both Kokush and skeletal were top level black finishers back in Kami/Rav standard, but I don't remember if one was clearly better than the other. In a faster velocity driven...
