So would you put Basic lands into the cube and let players draft the Basic lands along with the rest of the cards in a 4 x 17 packs? Wouldn't this lead to more non-games because some players will make the mistake to draft too few lands by accident/greed/stupidity? That has an attractive side...

Very true! I guess it depends on design philophy because even though the card might have high enough power level for my cube, I will still not include it because I do not want to signals to the 8 players that they can go into a Pirate-route. Kind of the same way I feel about Mausoleum Wanderer...

I bet it's gonna feel reaaaaally slow. But also very rewarding if you get to transform it and go a bit long. I can't wait! :D

You have convinced me. I was wrong. I must even admit that Ascend seems a little interesting now. Perhaps I can find one Ascend card from RIX to try in my cube. However having multiples seems like a more interesting angle if the power level is adequate.

On a second (fifth) thought I will admit Sigh is right: There are ways to push Ascend strategies during game play. I do not see them as optimal if we’re calculating win-chances but there are ways to affect the outcome. I concede my point and Sigh wins.
