    General What's the play?

Hahaha, gotcha! This is actually about racism and sensibilities (Mostly), but I do hope a few people get fooled by that title. So for quite a while now, this has been a card in my cube: It plays well, it fits well into the environment, it’s not overpowered, and (I think) the flavor works...

General Measuring your cubes power level

this could also be a function of pauper constructed vs pauper limited, since in constructed your options are less constrained and you're incentivized to come up with something your opponent can't interact with easily, something most cube designers tend to avoid.

General Measuring your cubes power level

That's true, though I'll place most of the high power level pedestal on the Third Set. The first two sets play like Khans limited, slightly faster, but with no fixing whatsoever*. Alara Reborn, on the other hand, is terrifying :p I'm not wholly measuring the speed though. Imagine the...

The Dandy Cube (Chris Taylor's Cube)

Part of that conception is that cubes tend to pack a lot more removal than the average limited format, and (usually) that removal is a lot more widely applicable. This contributes both to A) not needing a fight card since there's better options available, unless you're mono green, and B) there...

General Measuring your cubes power level

I've always thought of power level as a function of how much time players have to react to problems. For example, how quickly are people dying in your cube? the highest powered cubes (Pure Combo) have reaction times of probably 2 turns on the high end. You play memory jar, pass, and then kill...

The Dandy Cube (Chris Taylor's Cube)

It's an option, but a rather heavy handed one, and one that doesn't solve the largest issue with these cards: They only work when you're winning, or even. They don't help you come back. even with split second, you need a creature in play, and with fight cards you need a large enough creature...

I mean 3/2 flier for 4 is decent, so it's hardly a bad card.

Right, the straight 5-6-5 is an issue.

The Dandy Cube (Chris Taylor's Cube)

My players tend to either a) Be playing literally their first games of magic with this cube or B) Have played for 10 years and help me design these cards :P The only problem with it being a 2/1 or a 1/2 is that if it's a 1/2 it's not really a threat anymore, and it's much harder on the anthem...

The Dandy Cube (Chris Taylor's Cube)

So there's been a lot of talk lately about my old friend experiment two And a few people have been asking about what the average case for this card is, as I spent most of the stream discussing the worst case of this seemly innocuous card. Sorry if this turns into a bit of a puff piece about the...

Reanimator is another way to get value out of discarding a card :P I'm just making sure we all know this card has synergy based power, it's not just this sweet 2 drop you jam in any deck or environment and feel great about. 3/2 fliers tend to overwhelm people's sensibilities :P

Come on over to my cube thread, there's no way the forthcoming giant info dump needs to be in this thread :P

Also, I do want to caution everyone about our new black delver friend: Sure Cloud Manta is better than hill giant, and you can discard creatures to Hier, but do keep in mind how horrible this is if you discarded a card without madness or flashback, and it gets killed. This thing requires work...

General CFB Design Contest Final Vote

No please do continue, I'm loving this shit :p Part of me wonders how much the trading post vibe is only coming from the fact that foundry is a 4cc artifact with a :1::t: ability, while being otherwise unrelated. Kind of like saying how Jitte reminds me of Isochron Secpter because they fit the...

It's really powerful. Do you run another BB 2 drop? Edit: Doesn't look like it, so long as your cubetutor is current :P CC cards aren't horrible and unplayable, they're just harder to cast. Remember, the reason we advise against them is because in cube of days past amateur hour, you'd have white...

I think as a mechanic, morph is good, thus Megamorph would be probably just as good, adjusted for creature size. This is like kicker and multikicker, except without even the extra dimension

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

I don't think the 1 mana more to recur things is enough to justify all your bolts being terminates. Deathtouch is way stronger than wither :P

Yeah I've got high hopes for both flip cards spoiled so far. I'm less sure bout new Mentor of the Meek since a lot of what was decent about mentor was token spells, and :2: is a lot more annoying a recurring cost than :1:. 2/3 flier for 3 is nice though, so maybe that pushes it above?

    balance cube

I've never actually found pack rat all that powerful in the average cube, since the removal is usually far less unwieldly than it was in RTR. He's about the power level I want from a black 2 drop, and it does have that very relentless black feeling, but it's just kinda boring to play
