    General "Looking for a card"-Thread

I agree about Adventure and Battles. I do think we may see battles in the Lord of the Rings set, I think it makes thematic sense there. Ixalan may not have battles since the theme is apparently "underground" and not "tribal fued" like it was last time. I definitely agree battles will not be in...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

That can definitely be relevant, although most Cubes don't run enough countermagic to make a tormenting voice variant worth stopping. If you're still looking at this card, I would suggest playing Invasion of Mercadia instead. Invasion of Mercadia This card plays really well, is incredibly fun...

I think part of the problem is that most people don't necessarily have experience building and balancing Cubes that aren't derivative of MTGO Cubes. If your entire perception of what a "Cube" constitutes is derived from seeing gameplay from one Cube and maybe examining some random Cube lists...

We've been talking a lot about various aggro decks, but the important thing to remember is that there is only one king of Aggro: Bobggro!

Agree with Blacksmithy about Channeler. I would agree Champion is a fine cut as well, although I think Mulldrifter is also pretty dopey in multiplayer. The one card I wouldn't cut here is Ethereal Investigator because this is a Cube where it can actually provide its full value.

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

It's hard enough to do in most Cube formats that it's basically EDH mana. Additionally, it definitely has EDH defense!

Even some of those are fine if you can cast and/or flip them. Invasion of Alara is kind of busted!

You took the words right out of my mouth! Also, you must remember Swaggro, the Aggro deck that plays Thragtusk.

Key takeaway from the past couple of days: Born of the Gods is a superior set compared to March of the Machine: The Aftermath.

I think it's probably the "downside" of losing 1 life every turn. Many players can't get past downside abilities unless they've already been taught the card is good. Herald is fine, but it's not such a slam dunk that people who have never played with it will look past the life loss trigger.

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I think this card is good enough that I would hesitate to put it in the "low power" card spotlight. I think this card is fantastic!

I agree! This is a very fun 3//5 drop.

I understand this concern, although I don't think it's something you have to worry too much about. Emry is very frail, to the point where a stiff breeze is a formidable opponent for her to face. I think if a player is able to assemble some sort of value loop with her, it should be easy enough to...

    Highball: Legacy of the Rails

I'm a big fan of this cycle! It does suck a little bit that the Black one cares about mana value and not card types, but the White and Green ones are definitely promising.

Wow, I don't remember this at all. Granted, I think I was mostly just paying attention to this area of the Cube community at the time, and I don't think we thought the set was weak! I agree. Like I said, I think a lot of the problems from this time period were a function of a new play design...

    Highball: Legacy of the Rails

I think you're 100% on the money here! Stuff like Grim Flayer can act as an extra "Tarmogoyf" while giving more incentives for people to play artifacts outside of the dedicated artifact pile decks. Other Delirium cards can also help to get people going in an artifact-y direction. I'm a little...

    General Fight Club

I think Network is a bit boring. It can definitely win a game of limited, but it's more fun when it's a niche card instead of something you're building a deck around. Emry, by contrast, leads to some really fun divergent play patterns depending on what's in the Cube with her. I like Emry more...

General (MAT) March of the Machine Aftermath Previews

For what it’s worth, WOTC basically got the adventure cards right on the first try. They were a little problematic in standard (thanks overtuned limited support cards!), but as a whole they aren’t broken. It just takes a long time to get the balance on Adventures correct because there are so...

    Highball: Legacy of the Rails

Abzan Antiquities Abzan isn't going to be going particularly deep into the artifact theme. Black has basically no room for artifacts matter cards, and Green doesn't really doesn't need the extra archetype. White, by contrast, is going to be getting a little bit of artifact support, hopefully...
