I started bottom-up so Unholy Grotto/Unholy Grotto made me groan but then Swamp/Swamp made me do an infomercial-style "there's got to be a better way!"

Those are both true (though the latter was harder in 2010 than it is in 2025 obviously) - but specifically Morph has a way higher supply problem. You can find an Abzan Devotee for every power level (and then some!) But even if you let Disguise's ward coexist with regular Morph/Megamorph, your...

Scryfall's got some weird tags and also some standard behavior. You can do is:dfc t:land to get DFCs that are land on either face. That'll also include the Barkchannel Pathway cycle... as well as every Secret Lair that had a land version of those weird cards with not-Magic backs (like this...

Exactly! If it was just on your turn it'd just be worded like Showdown of the Skalds, but this doesn't say anything about your turns, only "turns when a counter was added"... edit: not even, Skalds let you play instants the whole time, but you get what I mean.

General [Almost Daily] Every Set in Magic, Cube Edition

Split a box of Legions with my best friend when we were 12, there's a reason it was the best-selling set of all time literally until Zendikar. Also, never going to put anything from it in my cube, because the power level is not there on morph in 2025. Gempalm Incinerator is like, the only thing...

    Sets [FIN] [UB] Final Fantasy

I like the design of ability 1 here - it probably won't come up in a cube basically ever, since you'd need instant-speed proliferation, but the set itself has some stuff that messes with specifically lore counters, even if no instants yet, so I bet there'll be one (can't reprint Storyweave, but...

General [Almost Daily] Every Set in Magic, Cube Edition

While neither is still in my cube, my two favorite Gatecrash cards taste great together even if they actually don't synergize beyond the norm: Burning-Tree Emissary + Ghor-Clan Rampager SET STORY: a week after GTC came out, we did a 3v3, winners split the cards as usual. it gets to prize time...

I don't know how I feel about Saga creatures in general, but this is quite the dream to live.

My counterargument is that Eviscerator's Insight was 2/5 and that thing was absolutely busted at doing the Sneaky Snacker thing in MH3, which should theoretically be a more powerful limited format than a Standard-legal one. I assume Revelation tends to be a worse card in terms of pure value...

-> A lot of cards in this set all make the same landfall chocobo, pursuant to our earlier discussion.

Always down for a Fact or Fiction variant, even if Sorcery makes me sadder than Flashback makes me happy I just like legendary dog tokens, okay?!

    Sets [FIN] [UB] Final Fantasy

I think part of it is that - more so in original Zendikar, much less so in BFZ but still somewhat - it's way harder to reasonably block landfall creatures that grow in toughness. And I don't even mean something like Plated Geopede where it has first strike! Blocking a Steppe Lynx requires you...

Front side's just a bear, but you get free seven mana bear into the bargain! Also it's only power on landfall, not both.

I absolutely do not forget Reinforced Ronin. pretty sure I've literally never seen Lightning Berserker in my life, partially because it was in the same set as Zurgo Bellstriker which used up that neuron

    Sets [FIN] [UB] Final Fantasy

If I want to be doing the W mode of this, this is the larger-upside "save your whole team" that I want (rather than Galadriel's Dismissal, for instance, though that one can just get 'em dead) so this is like, actually surprisingly close to the power level of trick I agree with. as a Final...

-> If you really want to pay four mana to give all your Knights flying... well, you want Herald of Hoofbeats then. But if you're nostalgic for Kinsbaile Cavalier or something, you know. I mean, there's a lot more to this card (eat it, Gallant Cavalry, nice vigilance idiot), and the backside...

    Sets [FIN] [UB] Final Fantasy

I don't actually mind it from a flavor standpoint, I just think that "3 deals 2" is weird enough without a "No." before it. I think they would have said "#3" or "Number 3" if it wasn't explicitly "No. 3" in the game, so it's partially due to UB, sure... it's just one of those garden path...

It's a Guttersnipe, whatever, the real funny thing here is that I did not expect the string "No. 3 deals 2" to ever exist on a Magic card Also at some point I'm going to be losing to Ancient Adamantoise and so sad and then I'm gonna draw this and you will be able to see the gears turning in my...
