Sets The Best of Tarkir Block

I think you won me over. I was going to skip over Surrak entirely, but now I think I'm going to test him. I don't know what's gotten into you, GenericZero, but your posts lately have been completely kick ass.

General Decks that have 3-0'd your cube

The guy who won was raving about it, and how it's essentially Counterspell in the late game. Turns out some of those old, forgotten delve cards are pretty decent! Dualcaster Mage is a complete turd, though. He's coming out in the next update.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Yeah, I don't think he's oppressive, but having a card to draw people into the UR control archetype is appealing. This guy is better than Ral Zarek, at least. Jeskai Ascendancy I played in Khans draft recently and it was really bad. Does this function any differently in cube? I know some...

    Rasmus Riptide Cube (360 Unpowered)

Obzedat's Aid is a little random - isn't Unburial Rites just better in every way? Rites is a card that actively pulls you into reanimator, whereas I would worry that Aid would wheel all night. Aside from that, though, the B/W section looks like it's shaping up to be pretty sweet.

General Decks that have 3-0'd your cube

Yeah, that's the only reason I don't currently run him. If we're evaluating them on objective powerful level, it's hard to argue with Polukranos's ability to dominate a board state. But maybe I can do a silent swap and see how my players react.

    Rasmus Riptide Cube (360 Unpowered)

I'm not a huge fan of Obzedat, Ghost Council, because in a cube environment CCDD cards at 4 to 6 mana are really tough to cast. +1 for Angel of Despair, though - that is one of my favourite cards, period.

Polukranos, World Eater vs. Deadbridge Goliath

General Decks that have 3-0'd your cube

I should really try out Deadbridge Goliath. Scavenge is a really sweet mechanic that overlaps well with any graveyard interactions, and even on its own provides solid value.

    Rasmus Riptide Cube (360 Unpowered)

Sun Titan is pretty innocuous - you have to work hard to get your value out of him - but I agree that Inferno Titan spells trouble for the little guy trying to get his sweet synergies going.

    Rasmus Riptide Cube (360 Unpowered)

I would say midrange first and foremost, then aggro a distant second. Life payment paired with lifegain is a really sweet synergy that's naturally built into most cubes, with zero extra effort required, and it's equally satisfying for players to pull off. If you want an explicit build-around...

Sets [DTK] Dragons of Tarkir Spoilers Thread

Yeah, I'm really going to miss drafting Khans. The aesthetic of that set was goofy as all heck when it first previewed, so I wasn't expecting it to be as robust and fun a limited set as it turned out to be. Like GenericZero, I'm worried that Dragons will be another AVR in terms of draft, but...

    Rasmus Riptide Cube (360 Unpowered)

That actually looks really sweet when you lay it all out like that. The only change I'd make is to turn BW into more of a midrange colour pair. Between the strong removal in the two colours, white's efficient creatures, and black's focus on attrition and two-for-ones, this colour pairing...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Spell Snare i'm now convinced this is a real card, especially in fast lists with a lot of action on turn two, which describes a big chunk of cubes here. it's exactly what you want on the draw, so that you can interact with your opponent's Bitterblossom, Tarmogoyf, Thalia, Young Pyromancer, or...

Sets [DTK] Dragons of Tarkir Spoilers Thread

Hmmm, this guy still seems more midrange to me, or even aggro. For control, I still like Archfiend of Depravity, despite his unpopularity around here.

Sets [DTK] Dragons of Tarkir Spoilers Thread

This looks halfway decent as a Cloudgoat Ranger-style card in black that requires a little more work. He plays really well with Gravecrawlers! Even moreso than the weird zombie lord in this set. A little unfortunate that he's the same casting cost as Sidisi, Undead Vizier, but I suppose they...

    General MODO Cube Redesign

To add one more voice to the topic, I played a really interesting game against Pack Rat today. After a long back and forth left us with a semi-gridlocked board state and me at 5, my opponent figured out that his best bet was to simply discard his card each turn to the rat, in order to build up...

    Rasmus Riptide Cube (360 Unpowered)

Yeah, a pile of Tectonic Edges in the utility pile goes a long way towards reining in the rampant destruction caused by wanton Gavony Townships, Celestial Colonnades, Vault of the Archangels, Treetop Villages, and even Nephalia Drownyards. Some of these lands are really powerful, and it's good...
