But the puzzle is the cube one creates. It is very difficult, but can be switched into easy mode by customizing things. It's like cheat codes in Grand Theft Auto. Just my 2cents.
If you're cube is not too fast, I had some success with this thing in my simic hybrid slot.
Spitting Image
Turning every top deck land into the best creature on the battlefield is a pretty resilient way to take over the late game. I could tell you a sweet story involving Spitting Image and...
I'm against mechanically changing cards or adding customs for my cube personally, as it feels like cheating to solve the puzzle. But I might have a slot to test it. I love how this forum helps one to find crazy little games of old days :)
Edit:
20 minutes of thinking made me realize I should...
My favorite is this one:
Haunted Crossroads
Needs your deck to have a decent number of relevant creatures, but there are also Archaeomancer and sich to get back your noncreatures. And yes, it is not card advantage, but it's basically a Worldly Tutor, repeatable, that also prevents you...
Hey guys, I'm looking for an artwork for some human rogue. It's a 1/1, but still mean, like he or she will cut you purse and maybe your throat. And it should look old school, like it could be on a magic card of the early days. Anyone?
Has anyone have any experience with this card in cube?
Cloudstone Curio
It seems like a pretty cool blink engine to build around. But maybe it asks for too much? Unlike Crystal Shard or Erratic Portal, you need 2 creatures here, preferably both with useful EtB abilities.
I recently cut FTK and Nekrataal, now I'm cubing Skirk Marauder. All based on things I read here in a thread about removal. I think this step was overdue, further flattening my power level and rewarding synergy over good stuff drafting.
Catoblepas looks like a sweet design. It lets you do some...
Nope, the other way round, but both are very important to make the game fun for all kinds of people (what we have to do as cube managers). But I don't think mutate will make my gameplay better, like at all. Maybe a few cards would be decent in that regard, but there are other ways among the...
Mutate feels messy and inelegant, and also not appealing as a mechanic. But some of the designs, like the octopus, seem really cool. The reason I don't put it into my cube is the unnecessary non-human clause. I expect my newer players not to think of this all the time, when they arr already...
Everything seems so pushed in Ikoria: Lair of Powercreep. It speaks volumes that the cards that interest me the most currently are 3 commons from the last day drop. I've never had soo many "that's too pushed/efficient for my cube"-moments going trough a full spoiler.
Neither mode is good...
While I agree, that bouncing demonic pact is a huge bonus point, I'm actually not sure about the instant speed. It's one of the things that makes crystal shard a tad too annoxing and a reason why I consider replacing it. But on the other hand, he's easier to kill as a creature with 2 toughness...
I'm trying to support monocolor decks (alongside two- and threecolored ones), so I'd stay away from a mana base, that reduces the opportunity cost of taking fixing to almost nothing.
Just wanted to call back, this gem has been suuuper good for us in just 3 tests. So easy to get a 2 for 1 out of it, and there are nice tricks with first strike on deathtouch or lifelink. It's soo gonna stay.
