Well, the curve of, I'll say, all of our cubes is much lower than a retail environment. You can't really tone down the one drops without pushing towards higher CMC Magic, which approaches dragon territory. It's well possible our cubes have too few big butts. But... fuck board stalls.

This feels like a lot of work that might yield very little understanding. But maybe it would. I dunno, I feel like I should read some more mothership articles on limited design, they often have good points that are portable to cube land.

Oh man, you've never heard somebody say "I went 3 - 0 with this WW cube deck and was bored out of my mind?" Have you never played a Standard aggro deck where the game just played itself? There are plenty of boring beatdown decks out there, and this has nothing to do with some ivory tower...

My approach is to make playing aggro more fun. People used to be similar in my cube, now they love being the beatdown. It's not really a power-level issue (but that helps)

I also don't think that having "too many one-drops" is really diluting your draft pool. How many slots do you even open up by doubling? Especially when you consider cube drafts already have 24 more cards than retail drafts.

Blasting Station only works because you can recur Gravecrawler and Bloodghast over and over for free basically. I've had games where I played a Turn 5 Primeval Titan and the next turn the dude killed it with Blasting Station.

I dunno, Mortarpod was so slow in standard that I never really gave it an honest effort in cube. I imagine your mileage will vary as a function of your X/1 density. 2 to equip is kinda brutal.

Or if it had, like, an untap cost.
