I bought an Etherium-Horn for the Eldrazi Domain cube and it was pretty uh... well it's a dumb card. Look at it. Renounce the Guilds is in that cube and pretty cool, as well as being great anti-Geist/Bogle tech. Shadowborn Demon's art really confuses me. Like... that head and the body don't...

    General The Idiosyncratic Component Obession

One of the things I like about David Sirlin is that he is very open about how terrible the CCG model is. But sometimes I also wonder now that I'm on the other side of things. The fact that things are so expensive allows for interesting content sites like CFB and SCG to exist. I enjoy visiting...

Matt's Cube (720, unpowered, usually used for multiplayer formats)

Your Utility Land stack looks pretty similar to mine. None of the ones you list are overpowered in my cube. Our strongest is Volrath's Stronghold, but we also run a ton of land destruction. The cycling lands also have a ton of synergies. I love to get a cycling lands, Loam, Deathrite Shaman...

Pendrell's Cube (576 cards, powered, uses a test pool)

I love Searing Blaze. I find CC costs to be much more manageable than CCC costs. I don't think it's bad to push mono-red a bit, it's just a question of degree. As far as Searing Blaze goes, I run it all the time in non-mono decks. There was a time when people were complaining about red decks...

    405 Mostly Modern Cube

Tectonic Edge is so good. I always forget how good it is until I see it in action. In games where you need the mana it's just there, but in some matchups it just devastates the opponent. Probably best in a slower environment where you can really take advantage of mana disparities (i.e. Caw Blade...

Yeah, I've always seen red as the best "midrange" color because its burn lets you transition so easily between playing the beatdown and playing the control deck. Burn is awesome against small creatures and great at providing reach against control. Also burn is so cheap and so useful throughout...

If you have any questions or thoughts about data visualization let me know. I've spent a lot of time thinking about graphing Magic data, but... well, it has some interesting issues. I would love to brainstorm though.

Yeah but UWR is a pretty midrangey deck in that half of its cards are just burn cards that can be removal against Aggro or reach against control. It closes out games really quickly with Geist + burn, and asks a lot of questions itself. There's also a UWR deck whose only creatures are a trio of...

You know, if I were in the US I would really like to eat at a Chipotle's ("upsacle" fast food burritos). For Diners... uh... find something local? All the American diner chains are pretty terrible.

What makes you say this? I see fair blue decks performing well with some pretty good frequency in Modern. Also UWR is a deck I can play and actually enjoy, unlike a lot of Modern decks out there.

I bet Shadowborn Demon is pretty good in that deck...

Well I know it's not ideal. Realistically, the downside to Misty Rainforest over Scalding Tarn is that I can't grab Mountain or Sacred Foundry, but can grab Island, Hallowed Fountain and Steam Vents. I wonder how many extra game losses that actually results in.

How awful is it to play the wrong fetchlands in Modern? i.e. running 2 Scalding Tarn + 2 Misty Rainforest in UWR instead of 4 Scalding Tarn
  15. Jason Waddell

    GBS

Yeah, I remember when I first started thinking that fetchlands were expensive at $10 a pop. Somehow there's more demand for them post-Standard than in Standard, but I suppose that has to do with the growth of the game as a whole.

Yeah, the idea behind 5C Zoo was to spend $0 on cards that I don't need for UWR and have a deck for a month. Unfortunately it looks like my article this week is getting bumped to Thursday (read: next month), so I won't have the credit to build the zoo deck. A 4th Deathrite would have required...

Err, scrap the Revelation list. I don't want to buy Cryptics and Revelations right now. In the meantime, I can throw together a crappy Tribal Flames list without buying any cards I don't need for the eventual UWR Geist deck: Tribal: 4 Arid Mesa 2 Misty Rainforest 2 Scalding Tarn 2 Marsh Flats 2...

I have the store credit to be able to finish off this deck at the start of the month: I think I'll start with Modern there and slowly pick up the cards for the Geist UWR deck.

How often did they win with the combo? Also, how often did Creeping Tar Pit get activated? Feels a little ambitions with 1 black source.
