General (MOM) March of the Machines Testing/Includes Thread!

Never trying them in cube, one go-around with a prerelease pool was enough for me in paper. Just not a fan of fiddly double-sided mechanics where no one is going to remember the backside. At least for flipwalkers or Ixalan enchantments or ZNR lands you knew the other side was going to be a...

General Major change to Standard: Cards rotate slower

Yeah, I'm not very surprised by them having the wrong takeaway for why Standard has flopped in paper the last few years. Forsythe had a tweet months back that I saw in a group chat where it seemed like he was legitimately confused as to why Paper had died and that's a terrible sign for the...

Sets (LTR) The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth

And that's the main issue for me with any of these emblem-lite mechanics. They punish players for NOT being up to date with everything MTG and they make the game excessively complex with very little payoff. The only reason I still follow Magic actively every set is due to r/magictcg being...

Provisioner all day. Being able to store the mana for a bigger payoff later on is way more powerful than a more expensive Cobra. Cobra is at it's most powerful being a 2 drop that lets you curve into a 4 or 5 on T3 ahead of the curve. If you have the 5-6 drops to consistently do that with Nissa...

I'd probably keep Juri. It's got more going on for it with a less restrictive trigger and FAR superior artwork. The only downside is that it can't fuel itself with a sacrifice ability so I guess YMMV depending on how much of that is available elsewhere in your environment.

I'm not a fan of Herald at all. Ran it for a brief period when it was first released but it's clunky, slow, and Outlast didn't really work well outside of an environment similar to KTK Limited. 3 mana at sorcery speed is an investment in a lower curve W/x Aggro deck that I often can't find an...

    General Fight Club

Of the option listed, I'd cut Champion of Wits and Sicarian Infiltrator. Champion is a little fiddly with the Eternalize in paper Magic, Infiltrator has a lot of text and is mostly mediocre. I think the other 3 are much cleaner designs all around and Investigator is probably the best with...

General (MAT) March of the Machine Aftermath Previews

Which is why it's important to figure out how to differentiate different flavors of Aggro in a cube environment. We didn't have the tools to do so prior to 2014, but since then we've had printings of many cards for B/x and W/x Aggro that have allowed for it to flourish and catch up with (in my...

General (MAT) March of the Machine Aftermath Previews

These are kind of neat as supplements to the archetype, but I think as far as gold slots go General Kudro of Drannith is the best signpost available. Anthem on a body + weird grave hate and sometimes removal option open a lot of lines for aggressive W/B Human shells, especially if there is any...

    General Tapping archetype

I don't think it's dangerous or really that powerful, just that the gameplay experience is miserable if your opponent curves out and feels like locking you out of mana from that point on.

    General Tapping archetype

Only with army in a can type creatures and if the environment doesn't have a combo-tilt towards it. The more fair the cube, the more miserable the experience. Opposition into a Hermit is awful to play against.

Mutation for me. Simpler line of text wins out despite inferior art.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I tried out Scrounger for like two years and it was definitely solid, but sometimes you just wouldn't have the necessary fodder if you were a deck with recursive bodies. If it's to close out a game sure, but I'd be hesitant trading in a Bloodghast or Gravecrawler most of the time. I think if...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Razorlash Transmogrant Just wanted to take a moment to highlight one of my favorite designs from last year. I underestimated this card as part of my pool during BRO prerelease but man was it essential towards being undefeated in three rounds. A 3/1 is always welcome in aggressive decks, it's...

Sets (MoM) April of the Machines Previews

That's nice to have available as an option. It's rare, but every now and then one of my drafters will go mad scientist with drafting just to get that 8th card and that always leads to Companion clarification (some of them haven't paid attention to Constructed in years). I'll have to see this and...

Sets (MoM) April of the Machines Previews

Now this is a clean design that I like. More ways to recur creatures is appreciated in Pod decks and this slots in neatly at the 5 slot which is a little barren with relevant ETBs to keep churning value. Can reset a Kitchen Finks for Pod chains, can give a beater ala Thrun, the Last Troll a...

    Shamim's Cube

I usually tend to cycle through a handful of land inclusions for the WUBRG selections and break cycles so I'll keep these in mind for future iterations, especially Sanctuary as I've had a lot of fun with that one in my Aminatou EDH deck. I ran many of the Innistrad lands for years, but most of...

    General Fight Club

Yeah, I haven't played much Limited in the last year so I didn't realize that it was reprinted with better Jaya art compared to the previous 2 printings. But I think I'm going to go with this one from a recent SLD: I'm finding myself more partial to the full art cards nowadays (they look...

I have Pyromancer in the flex slot for red, I'm debating whether or not to make a swap to another 2 drop or just replace it with something like a Lightning Strike variant as I don't really run any at the moment.

    General Fight Club

Dismissive Pyromancer or Bloodthirsty Adversary These two cards fulfill different roles, but I'm wondering which of these has been working out better for those who have run them. Pyromancer is a neat way to churn through a stall and gives you a way to pitch cards into the grave if that's...
