General Weekly Fun Q: Worst card to lose to & best to win with?

The two types of players. EDIT: This almost feels like a political compass (I've read about them earlier today, there's some recency bias here): What people want from winning could be measured on an axis from "Perfectly executed plan" to "Macguyver'ed win". Perfectly executed plans look like...

    Ice Cube

I've got around a month to myself and am considering building a second cube as a project. My first cube has been gathering dust since the pandemic, getting 8 players together has proved to be an issue. The new cube would hopefully be meaningfully different from my existing one, and easily...

Erik's Boredom cube (Low power, budget)

Hi, My hypothetical cubes that don't pan out have had a problem with Naya as well. My current trend is pulling towards really wide archetypes that split into sub-archetypes. Berserkers is a decent/default choice. You could also do Heroic/Prowess/Berserkers/Atarka Red-like overlap. I separate...

    General CBS

Loopy Lobster could work with level counters: Stage 1 is now base creature. Stage 2-4 are now 1 to 3 level counters. Whenever ~ becomes tapped, add a level counter to ~ Whenever ~ has 4 or more level counters, remove all level counters from it. I know there are many differences (stuff about...

So... this isn't useful? I don't populate a cube based on "who is the best character", and the fact that Elspeth is a tier A in your list doesn't mean she doesn't fit my power band, since you rated the average (highest?) power level of a card rather than each individual one?

    General Archetype Shapes

They can, but it'll be a bit more "off the beaten path". I may have a BG or WU signpost or multicolour Spirit card, but not a WB, WG, UB or UG. The two main colour pairs should have more cohesive decks, while the "secondary" ones are more of a "good stuff in these colours with some synergy...

    General Archetype Shapes

I had done something similar to this, the idea was to make a cube based on 5 4-colour combinations to be seen as two pairs. UBRG: Graveyard WBRG: Tokens WURG: Spellslinger WUBG: Spirits WUBR: Artifacts And the pairs being as follows, IIRC: WU: Spirits (aggro tempo control) UB: Graveyard...

    General Modern Horizons

Very interesting. The first part of the first paragraph felt a bit like a miss to me, but I hadn't realised the number of cost reducers in your list. I've thought of similar things when trying to design some archetypes off the beaten path. It would be cool to have a place to discuss these. I...

    Right, I missed that, sorry.

    General Modern Horizons

I can't tell how serious this response is meant to be, but there are quite a few differences between making everything cost 1 less and having 1 extra mana per turn. These make a big difference: Dusk Legion Zealot Elvish Visionary Fblthp, the Lost Wall of Blossoms Wall of Omens Which I think...

Woah. Never realized Hideaway included the "Enters the bafflefield tapped."

Cost reducers and card draw. Sort of like storm ;)

General Good cards you don't run because they are ugly

I don't have any of those, but I have other aesthetic concerns that might make me avoid a card: Commander trinket text, DFC, white borders, old wording, some trinket text, weird card frame, only rarely does card art come into play, unless I'm theorizing a specific gimmick cube (like desert).

    General Modern Horizons

You get a Golem for each spell this turn, since the spell with storm has the added text "Create a 3/3 colorless Golem artifact creature token.", before being copied.
