So I have a couple of days off and I realized that I had most of the expensive cards from Grillo's cube and decided to MTGO it. I also stole Jason's code and made this grid draft!
If you wanna call dibs be the first to reply. I posted this just before I went to bed, so in about 10 hours form this post I'll be back and can play at any point during the day (so for the next ~12 hours after that 10 hour gap). So come and try and beat me at some budget cubing!

Hey, kind of off-topic, but I was thinking of hosting Grillo's cube for a RipLab draft. If you already have the cards, would you be interested in hosting? Otherwise I'm sure we can pick them up on the RipLab account.

Yeah, of course I would. I was talking to Grillo about it and he is keen to see it be drafted with 8 people, since his playgroup is generally only 4 people. That was my end goal. In the mean time I may as well get some drafts in that don't require 8 people to be in sync at the same time.

Okay, we should figure out how. Either with Aoret's assistance, or some other method. I think the easiest mayyyyyy be to temporarily trade the cards to the RipLab account. I'll send you a PM later and we can try to figure out details.

So I drafted this pile which I guess is best described as RW Heroic splashing bomb auras and ninjas.

I ended up beating ferret 2-1. Fist game I got flooded cast exactly one card which promptly got removed and I got beaten down by a Rusted Relic.

Game 2 was much more interactive. I had an early start with a Swiftspear and Dragon Fodder and started to go to town on his life total. He managed to stabilize with a Shrine of Loyal Legions, Rusted Relic and Zulaport Cutthroat. A Thrashing Wumpus came down and I thought I was screwed. He decided to fire off the pestilence right away which ended up being a good sign for me as could get aggressive with the Galvanic Juggernaut and win ninjas.

Game 3 I had a Anax and Cyamede with a Rancor on it on turn 4 followed by a Galvanic Juggernaut. The beatings were rather severe. Being able to drop a Mogg War Marshall when no other creatures were dying to untap my galvanic Juggernaut was enough to get me there.

We both thought our decks were piles, but they both proved to be decent in their own ways and allowed for some nice interactive games.

I just need to learn to stop splashing so aggressively. I don't think that is going to happen.

The MTGO interface was a disaster for both of us, ruining Kirb's Grab the Reins. Later, MTGO allowed me to take a Ninja to the face before I quicksanded it, which took half of my 4 life as well as forcing me to discard Dread Return, which I rather needed at that point in the game. And of course the egg timer pressured me into firing off Wumpus right away rather than waste time evaluating the correct play.

Overall: cool cube, interesting decks on both sides, free alternatives are WAY better than MTGO.

It wasn't MTGO's fault that Grab the Reins didn't do what I wanted it to do. I just assumed it untapped the creature. Little did I know when I took your tapped Hellhole Rats to finish you off it wasn't going to untap :p

So I think the end result is this:
  • I need to read my cards
  • You need to learn how to MTGO
It does take a little effort to get used to all of its, let's call them 'features'. Once you do, the clock isn't a problem then. Plus having a strict rules environment allows less cheats to happen, or just generally helps (there have been many a time I have forgotten something with dredge is in my graveyard. MTGO always asks you if you want to dredge every-single-draw).
