Yeah I kind of had that realization as soon as I posted. The phantom might just eat a bolt and have done nothing, the duo guarantees two cards in the yard, and is a much better board stabilizer

Screaming Phantom vs Daggerfang Duo Let's assume the graveyard payoff is delve and reanimator. Which of these would be better for supporting that?

Apropos nothing at all, I've really started to appreciate X-spells. I've played some Oldschool 93/94 decks, and they usually play one-of of fireball or brain geyser, and it just makes it so much less punishing to flood out, since you know you could top-deck the X-spell and actually use all that...

As much as I like to rag on lots of modern card designs, sometimes we get really sweet simple designs like these.

I guess, break singleton if it's fun. I know people have done multiples of stuff like moxes in powered cube which I think makes sense, since in formats with power you'd expect both players to have moxes.

I honestly think it would be really cool if they'd have 2 back-to-back sets that are quite different flavor wise but re-purpose the same mechanics. I dunno, like an Innistrad set with flashback as a "graveyard" thing and maybe strixhaven where flashback is some kind of remember-what-you-studied...

The attacking and blocking, basic stuff like lightning bolt or ancestral recall or armageddon. I don't really need a bunch of mini games, the combat and interactions with your opponents stuff is fun enough for me

It's actually kinda crazy how good the base game of Magic is. I feel like WotC doesn't really trust in their own game anymore

I've started playing some proxied decks in the Oldschool 93/94 format, and I have to agree with the rating of Balance. While I was still looking up deck lists and printing out the proxies, I didn't understand why balance was a restricted card showing up in basically all the white colored decks...

I don't understand this attitude. Is chess a solved format? Is poker? Is any game that isn't receiving endless expansions? Some games are just wonderful to continue playing, as is. Premodern has a card pool of 5,376 cards, that's a fairly deep pool.
