I like the RTR shocks on the basis that I own the entire RTR cycle.

It's a tempo swing for sure. Depending on the environment, consistently swinging for 6 is very good, but so is blowing up your opponents 5 mana investment with your doom blade.

I'm trying to design some kind of dredge/creatures-in-yard-matters and am excluding delve entirely for precisely this reason of unifying the kind of resource the graveyard deck cares about

I do find using suspend as time-traveling to be quite elegant, if nothing else.

I remember finding Vampire Nighthawk to be pretty damn strong back when I was playing some kitchen table magic 10 years ago. It's an incredible blocker and it's evasive and can offset a race. It's good!

I have to say, the flavor of getting treasure tokens for cycling the balrog is pretty funny. Cycling lets you dig deeper into your deck, and digging deeper gets you treasures, and the treasures get you closer to casting (another copy of) the balrog!

Certainly think there's a possiblity of runing a token theme that is deeper than just creature tokens nowadays.

Also just curious: are there even any plausible decks that would both be interested in such a card? Spell velocity doesn't sound like a deck that wants a big expensive card in my experience.

I think I'm perfectly fine with having a card that _can_ do some cutesy stuff but also stands on its own. I'll try to remember to put in enough planeswalker removal to not make them too annoying.
