Kinda surprises me that the mechanic didn't have a better name, because I agree with you that it plays pretty well. Why not something like, "Use the Ring" or "Wield the Ring" or something? The existing name is so silly.

Ok I have played the prerelease now. Opened Sauron, dark lord which is a busted card, and built a BRu army deck and went 4-0. Got a reprieve in a price booster which was fun. Amass is really fun! Might consider actually putting it into a cube

Considering this is basically a 2/3 that gives something double strike when it enters, I think you can try and just run "incidental tribal" in white and red, which seems pretty doable. I'm pretty interested in trying the card out.

I've only tested in the context of a sealed deck I've played a few games with at the office, and there it seemed like you really need evasion or some tappers/bounce to reliably flip a battle. I think they're neat but I often feel like playing a creature or interaction is more correct than...

This has not been my experience when reading one of WotC:s own handouts, rather it's given me a reference point of where I'm taking the draft. If the color pair really is deep, I think people that are interested in exploring that depth will explore it.
