    Inscho's Graveyard Combo Cube

Format looks good. I just want to say how much vastly better this type of format feels with access to ample discard outlets. As in amazingly better compared to what I am accustomed too, and I wonder if it dosen't represent a significant breakthrough. Ample access to looting and sifting allows...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Yeah, I liked it quite a bit. I think I cut it eventually though because it wasn't quite as consistent a performer as I wanted. If I were to revise that theme, it would be to run more static sources of discard for 0-1 mana (prob both mongrel and constricter--the format feels like it wants...

    General CBS

It looks fine to me. It seems like there is a core of traditional good cards, and than some different, lower power cards around the fringes that might or might ot make it into the deck. In the draft it feels like those cards are behaving like filer, but not in a bad way, so I really didn't mind.

    Old Borders Power Cube

Looks sweet. Mox will be busted of course, but in a cool old school way. Should be fun seeing these cards from a different perspective. Looking forward to hearing how it goes.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

If been toying around with the idea of a Mirrodon-esque draft environment for a while now, where all of the smoothing comes from cheap artifacts. There is a huge body of 1-3cc cantriping artifacts, that either fix in some way, or provide interesting incidental utility.

The best and most subtle thing about the eggs, is that they introduce colorless smoothing into a format. If you think you can get away with running them, I think they are worth a trial run.

Ok, I remember the exchange now. You had 3 players running a 540ish cube, and you wanted it that big in order to maintain novelty. I was disagreeing with overly correlating size as a way to achieve novelty. And than I wanted to distance myself from this specific statement: Because it really...

If I was arguing against a cube for being too large, it was probably because I felt it was emphasizing novalty at the expense of structure. But I get your point.

Anything novel or interesting or amusing enough where people start replicating it or passing it on as part of a group. Lab maniac is almost assuredly a sub-optimal card to run in any list, but everyone wants to experience the lab maniac win at least once. I think you want some cards like...

Site News How to participate in a RiptideLab Draft

Hey Kirb, I have two guys from my group that I should be able to get to play. Usually, we draft on Saterdays in the evening, so there was a little bit of a scheduling conflict. My plan is to move the draft, than take those 2 guys, have them DL MTGO, and have them draft. If I have the date...

The Penny Pincher Cube 2.0--Inventors' Fair

Cutting god-pharaoh's gift And going to try tamiyo's journal From the bonzo cube. GPG was GRBS, reducing the entire game to hitting 7 mana and resolving it.

    Tea for Two

Welcome Gnoll. What kind of things do you and your play partner enjoy? The list suggests to me that you like some very powerful magic, with cards like skullclamp. In a vacumn, I would suggest cutting a card like that, or at least keep an eye on what you are enjoying it, and cut it when...

General GRBS colorless pack 1 pick 1 cards

The problem with EDH is that its supposed to be a fun casual format where anything goes and winning dosen't matter, but formats naturally trend towards a meta hierarchy of established decks where anything dosen't go, and the format texture trends towards a resolution of winning or losing. So...

Since the emotions thread was quoted, and I've had over a year to refine and rearticulate my thoughts, let me comment on somethings. This is relevent to wurmcoil, commander, lightning bolt, shock etc. What the emotions thread was trying to say, was that one of the issues with cube design is...

I would be really nice to see a high powered cube with actual well-thought out archetypes. Solving the "blue is completly OP" problem seems like the biggest challenge.

General GRBS colorless pack 1 pick 1 cards

GRBS was always an overly vague term, even when it was in vogue. It was more of a low resoltion feeling that players had towards certain cards. The specific objection against wurmcoil, was that it was seen as an easy first pick: a high power cards that required no specific color commitment was...

I don't think he was reducing a mode of thinking to a phrase; he was just using catagories, and you're free to chip at the borders as they become too rigid, just as he's free to strengthen them if they become too plastic. What I think is what you're trying to say here, is that catagories like...

General Game Design - Threats vs Removal

Ok, I think thats the critical thing than. I'll try to articulate this, and if its unfair correct me. Basically, you want to use design elements to make the decision as to when or when not to use removal more meaninful. That seems to me pretty fair, and there is a lot of depth to that...

I think the dude was just saying he didn't want games dictated by removal check threats slipping through gaps in the non-conditional removal suite, thereby turning games into a lottary. But yeah, everything else looked fine in an abstract. Raw power level is dictated by what the format is...
