    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

For our group, most of us do pushups after each game equal to life lost. Final Fortune has been used several times in a lost game to avoid pushups and deliver more pushups to a hapless loser. Sure, you might lose, but it feels like a win when you're doing six pushups while the winner's doing...

    Card/Deck +1/+1 Counters

Holy crap. I have a copy, I've looked at it half a dozen times, and I only now saw that it was 2B. I was definitely suggesting playing it at B. At B, it seems roughly comparable to Mortician Beetle. Triggers more often, but you can't do neat tricks with it.

    Card/Deck +1/+1 Counters

Hmm, fair point. I wonder if there's some space to make Khabul Ghoul similar-to-but-different-from Mortician Beetle by customizing it. Khabul Ghoul has hexproof when not attacking or blocking? That's probably far too good for a one-drop though.

Sets [KTK] Khans of Tarkir Spoilers

13, also mostly red (though it does hit Vampire Lacerator and Lifebane Zombie, but it's still 3 power for two mana, and a Human, which I'm pushing in my Cube. Then again, it does signal to drafters that there might be a Warrior deck in my cube, not just some incidental synergies on a 3-power...

Put a creature card with power 2/3/4 or less from your hand onto the battlefield? Could vary depending on the casting cost of the spell..

General Best designed Magic card of all time

My favorite thing about Clique, from a design standpoint, is that it's sometimes right to not use the ability, and very occasionally right to target yourself.

General It could happen in any number of formats

This. I've cut cards exclusively because you will take them first out of any pack, no matter what deck you're playing (Wurmcoil Engine, anyone?). The titans are on my watch list, but the color requirements mean they sometimes get passed. I do bring the swords back in whenever I bring in...

General Best designed Magic card of all time

Carnivorous Death-Parrot But really, I'm awfully fond of the design on Izzet Charm: Izzet Charm The first two modes are generally valuable against two different decks. The counter non-creature part has interesting interaction with X spells, where the threat of an Izzet Charm can lead to a...

General Print this Wizards! (So I can put it in my cube)

Or if your deck is full of creatures with casting costs like Obzedat, it's pretty bad. The difference between the two cards is really just how frequently the synergy shows up. Monolith synergizes well with decks that have cards with 5+ cc cards (without weird color requirements), which is a...

Card/Deck Mill in cube: yay or neigh?

What about attaching mill onto something a little more interactive? UB Instant Remove target attacking creature from combat. Target player puts the top X cards of his or her library into his or her graveyard, where X is the attacking creature's power. Draw a card. UUB Instant Counter target...

Rob's unpowered cube - with primer

Wow, Blasting Station. My recursion package is very similar to (*cough stolenfrom*) yours. That'll fit perfectly. I like the second Carrion Feeder as well. Fecundity is interesting. I'd like to add some sacrifice or on-death effects to colors other than just black and red, but part of that...

    Tanner's Cube (~500, Unpowered)

Eric, that's a really useful post. I took a lot of your feedback and made some major revisions to my Cube (about 80 or 90 cards swapped around). Speakerbreaker Behemoth (and a number of other cards, especially in Green) were remnants of when the Cube theme was "cards I already own". This...

    Article Cantrippin' Balls

I'm not really concerned about the "obvious first pick" cards for my cube. I'm concerned about the obvious first pick cards that don't also commit you to a strategy or color. Titans and Swords are all reasonably close in power level, but I've cut the Swords and kept the Titans. The Titans...

General Print this Wizards! (So I can put it in my cube)

I love this concept (Telepathy is one of my favorite cards), but it's really under-costed. A 2/1 flyer for :1::u: is already a very good card and perfectly playable on its own. I'd say it's balanced as a 2/2 flyer for :2::u::u:. This is similar in power to Mist Raven (i.e. Wind Drake +...

    Sets [MCD] M14 previews

For control decks, losing the ability to exile your own creature is a minor nerf, but it's an edge case. Usually you'd want to exile your own creature to drop something like an Arrest or Stab Wound, but it's best to do that when you have a flicker or bounce effect to get the creature back into...
