    General Other News

From Hasbro's Fireside Chat in December. The only place I see that's using the stat specifically is Wargamer...not really my favorite source, but that's what I've got for ya. It's also in my notes from the call, and I'm sure the call is saved somewhere (though they expired it on the Hasbro site...

Oh, very much, and they also reach very different audiences as well. I used to like looking at the delta between the two and trying to suss out what elements account for what portion of any differences on a card-by-card basis, and am happy to be able to do so again !

Excuse the small image size (you can see the full thing here) but I wanted to share the good news that y'all probably were aware of before I was: after 9 months, CubeCobra's tools beyond individual cube management are back up! I've loved loved loved the ability to dig into the most played cards...

Sets (LTR) The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth

And they did reveal a card from that deck already that would be somewhat interesting to me if it didn't have "Partners With": Getting a food every turn (that sacrifices for half the normal cost!) is a forceful way to tell your drafters that it's a supported archetype and/or there's some...

Sets (LTR) The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth

I'm for sure going to include Mt. Doom as one of my Rakdos duals. I'm currently playing Sulfurous Springs. Mt. Doom is about the same 80% of the time with SWEET blow-out potential 10% of the time, more than making up for the 10% of the time you really need mana without spending life. Will you...

Sets (LTR) The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth

My most requested card of all time I'm so happy to get it in Middle Earth, too. HOWEVER... "return target spell to its owner's hand" is hard to grok for casual to moderate players as a counterspell... not the ideal templating for that purpose, even if I aesthetically (and flavorfully) prefer...

    Cardboard by the Numbers

Hey folks, Back in early December, I made a ton of infographics to help me focus on my work (procrastinating with something productive is good at keeping me productive!). I got so into the groove of work that I never had time to publish any of them, but yesterday's news from Hasbro about their...

General [Lucky Paper] The History of the Cube Format

I can't tell you enough how much I enjoyed this article, thanks for putting all the time to get it together. I still have no idea how I found Cube -- maybe the MTGS forums? But by at least 2013 I had a cube all rocked and ready and jumped on CubeTutor within a month of launch, and tried to dig...

If I had to start my cube over from scratch and was playgroup agnostic, this is very close to what I would want to build. I don't know how helpful that is, but there are 30 easy cuts or so from a power outlier perspective...but all on the bottom end, which isn't the end of the world. They're...

I lost to an opponent at the pre-release when they were at 9 poison and 1 life because I made a joke about how bad it'd be for me if they could flicker my creatures...before we both realized it could do that too.

Sets (ONE) Phyrexia: All Will Be One Previews

Having played a pre-release, discussed the set with other players, and watched a video or two about the set: wow! Lovely limited format. Keen to see how draft plays out compared to sealed, but it seems like the RW equipment theme and the GB toxic archetype are both excellent, with blue not...

Simply put, I disagree! Making a 4/4 as a + ability (!) is pretty good in regards to using her to her "fullest extent" on turn 5. A 4/4 is meaningfully bigger than a 3/3, and you'll get a 5/5 the following turn if Nissa's not disrupted. The other 5 MV walkers don't have that same escalating...

Is this really so complicated to understand? I had it on my inclusions list for all of the cross-synergies it provides, but I'm incredibly wary of cards that take up too much complexity without consummate payoff. If y'all saw it in a draft for the first time, would you feel like you got 80% of...

Sets (ONE) Phyrexia: All Will Be One Previews

I adore Vraan, Executioner Thane. Vraan, Executioner Thane As @TrainmasterGT said, it doesn't necessarily compete for a Blood Artist or Zulaport Cutthroat "slot"; not in terms of a vague "# of cards to support an archetype" sense, at least. Where it does become a "This vs. That" situation is...

For sure. I definitely get the appeal -- seriously I do! -- but it's too durdly even for retail IMO Blood Fountain is actually just good. You only need to support it a little on a synergy axis and all of a sudden it's quite the potent 1-mana package.

Half of these set previews hurt my eyes more than Alchemy releases, holy wow. I was recently considering adding in Tamiyo's Safekeeping to fill the slot I've rotated between Berserk, Mutagenic Growth, and Blossoming Defiance. I think it's about even with Defiance, but I actually prefer this one...
