unsubstantiate is great. Its a tempo card that lets you push an assault on whatever angle it needs to be pushed on: remove a blocker for a turn, hold back a critical spell, or force the opponent to delay their deployment by wasting mana regardless of what they do. This isn't even really a...

How have you liked mistfire in general/how have people been playing it? I really like the card, but I believe your format is higher power. I like the idea of it being a higher power mistfire analogue.

Unsubstantiate has staple potential: that type of affect is really, really good.

Any excuse to run that card is worth taking: my drafters can complain later.

Right, we actually have a legit feeling aggro deck in R/W. It even has a cool combo as a late game reach plan, that also works with that abby they printed last set

I think you just don't run it if you have worries about those complexity issues. Running them in squadron seems kind of heavy handed: like you're basically handing constructed level consistenacy, or a combo, to certain drafters.

I actually like the hanweir combo. Both cards are fine in an aggro or midrangish red deck, but the land is a solid ex map or tolaria west target. You can grab the other half with imperial recruiter or a transmute tutor, or just sift for it. That payoff seems reasonable given the trouble of...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Thats more of a choice on the part of the designer. I generally don't like true sweepers in low power formats, and prefer something more limited, yet capable of mass removal. Ashes to ashes and barter in blood are perfect low power alternatives.

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I actually wonder about that. The biggest issue mono black aggro has is that it deals so much damage to itself that it basically auto losses to every other aggro deck already. In addition, snuff out is a dead card in certain matchups (even ghastly demise isn't really seeing play anymore) which...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I would think it would be worse the faster your cube format is, because the 4 life loss would actually matter. Pauper is very fast, and its only fringe playable there. If an efficient threat is trying to kill you, often times the opponent is happy to trade that threat for the 4 life you paid...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Sure, but than again, so does/did this guy in vintage shops triskelion Brainstorm is another card like that, whose playability and power level varies tremendously with a formats supporting architecture. That being said, perhaps in the context of cube, none of the factors that reduce snuff...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

"Low power" doesn't mean the card has to be bad, or actively inefficient: Ashes to Ashes is low power compared to actual mass removal like damnation, while snuff out only sees fringe play in pauper. It usually just seems to be a card thats marginalized somewhat in current magic design, or...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Comparing ulcerate to disfigure, tragic slip, and ghastly demise is pretty interesting i.m.o., especially disfigure. I feel like in many formats, the consistency that ulcerate brings should give it a nod when comparing against slip and demise at least in some decks: some removal hungry decks...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

If I had to choose, I would go spellbomb, just because artifacts tend to have more incidental interactions than enchantments, but both cards are great if you're trying to promote those kinds of structures. As an alternative (or supplement) to seal of fire (if we are discussing delirium), there...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I really like both cards for different reasons, and this probably isn't a simple binary comparison. Ulcerate is really appealing because the power level of the removal pushes it into premium removal territory, yet the 3 life cost encourages synergistic interactions with life gain cards. One...

    To loot or not ?

Which is fine, but its still not as good as it normally would be, because a tempo blowout exists at common. I don't know how far down I would scale it, but it certainly has to be scaled down somewhat. My instincts though is that fof would be better? Isn't it pretty close even before silent...

    To loot or not ?

Against silent departure its 4 mana to bounce a creature and you go down a card; and its in the same format as fact or fiction. Its still a good card, but not as good as it normally would be, from what I've experienced.

    To loot or not ?

I'm just joking with you guys: I know the community verdict. I am sure CM is still a high pick in EMA, but I am sure it is a lower pick than it normally is. There is a greater density of higher power cards than normal, and a very effective foil at common.
