Spikeshot goblin and humble defector also look like easy cuts. Trigon of rage also has me raising an eyebrow though I'm also mildly curious. How has that card been? I feel like shower and radiant flames have a lot of interesting competition. Really like red's sweeper choices flameshot...

Thats pretty rough. Bombardment is one of aggro's best ways to gain resilience and play a more multi-faceted game, and its being replaced by a bunch of control and midrange cards :( Its also one of the only good aggro friendly sac. outlets, and in red to boot, a color that badly wants that...

General When Is Fixing Too Good?

I looked over your cube again, and I really think your fixing is fine. You dont want to remove fixing as an issue, because its an important boundry to prevent people from drafting 4-5 color good stuff. To put this in perspective, with the innistrad theme cube I have issues now with the fixing...

Eight non-basic lands? That seems way too high. I would say the average here has pretty consistently been 4, and people still run very aggressive mana bases. I run about 40-45 color fixing lands at 360, with a land section capped at 50, and no ULD.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Look man magic is not about winning, its about how many gnomes you can get into play. What are you a spike now? :p Edit: Lets admire that art in more detail and swoon

I just discovered that this card also existed, and everything about it is adorable metrognome

Broadly speaking, people play games because they find decisions the game asks them to make interesting, and that dosen't have to have anything to do with winning.

That card is super sweet and I didn't know it existed. I would run it and worry about the consequences later, though prob make it rare? Think of it as taking a sweeper slot in your format

Its more that winning is a major intent of magic, and that edh players choose some really inelegant methods to police it. The end result being you need a group of like minded people for it to be fun for everyone, and the whole thing collapses when you add a new player that dosen't understand...

I don't want people to get too caught up in phrasing, as there is some nuance here that should be acknowledged: very few people are 100% spike and 100% Johnny: but as far as format construction goes, larger sandboxs tend to be fun, but harder to balance, and if you're a competitive player you...

    General Draft Strategy

These two articles describe how I like to draft: Article 1 Article 2 The only thing I would add is that I generally don't first pick multi-color cards.

Outside of this forum I think you run into more problematic cube design. Power max design is essentially a declaration that you have no interest in even thinking about balancing, and the strict insistence on singleton formats is consistant with the casual players' trend of valuing variety over...

Ignoring rhetorical tricks in question framing, I thought he did a pretty good job of explaning the issue: Its really more an acknowledgement that people will try to meta your format (aka break it) and if they do so succesfully it will result in an unbalanced format, lacking in variety, as...

    Ink-Treader Cube (312)

Wow, if that list of singleton breaking is correct, you have about 55ish cards that you are doubling or tripling on in a 312 cube. That mean you're running something that will feel more akin to a 260ish card cube. If the final metagame dosen't feel really balanced and strategically deep...

The Riptidening—Building my Cube from scratch

Yeah, this is what I keep on trying to say, to various degrees of effectiveness. Its fine to bleed outside of the guild, just be aware that sometimes that results in isolated mechanics, making certain cards dead, or results in over powered wedge or shard combinations that you never intended...

So, the reason I told you that you might have some trouble with your equipment theme, is what you are seeing here: the vast majority of equipment is terrible. Stoneforge mystic is not a great card: batterskull, jitte, and swords of X and Y are great cards, and stoneforge is great at finding...

    Ink-Treader Cube (312)

Whoa, this is different. How are you looking to add replayability to the cube? Is it a question that your drafters always want more sandbox to play in, or is it an issue of providing more strategic depth? I ask because your format is already very constricted due to the small size combined...

That demon priest looks really good. It also works well with the lifegain and blink mechanics you want to run, and seems to strike the right balance between power and balance for a reanimation target. What is mike and trike? I love triskelion, but never really have the right reanimation...
