    Sets [EOE] Edge of Eternities

eat shit, Crowned Ceratok (the single Magic Discord server I'm in absolutely loves to tell things to "eat shit" during spoiler season, we get a lot fewer "eat steak" which is the opposite but we still do get 'em sometimes)

General [Almost Daily] Every Set in Magic, Cube Edition

And since I guess this thread isn't just "Seeker's Storytime": ALA was when I first made my cube. I wanted a strictly even number of gold cards, meaning that the bar was lower in every conceivable way: Temporal Spring Sarkhan Vol The former is the least fun common I've ever cast in my life...

General [Almost Daily] Every Set in Magic, Cube Edition

Spiteful Prankster is strictly better! (but it's never been printed in foil or in a "real" draftable set, so if you value either of those... it's me. shiny. shinyshinyshiny.) The thing I have nostalgia for about Shards of Alara specifically is that - before Alara Reborn came out, because the...

    Sets [EOE] Edge of Eternities

I think I usually want Bitter Reunion over this (harder card type for delirium/goyfs, more relevant activation in the decks doing filthy things), but that's not me saying this isn't nice. Just that I want to do the filthy things instead of the grindy ones. I have fond memories of Chained to...

    Sets [EOE] Edge of Eternities

This one gets its own standalone post: I have no idea how good this card is. My first reaction was "it cheats other Spacecraft", but it doesn't - while it animates them, it doesn't give them the counters, so they don't have the abilities you're actually interested in cheating your way to...

    Sets [EOE] Edge of Eternities

Compared to almost all the other Spacecraft we've seen so far, I'm interested in this. Giving up 2 damage for a 1W Anthem - so as early as turn 2 with a Savannah Lions, which is the rate these days - is acceptable! Then later you can maybe ever make it a creature, or have synergies with charge...

    Sets [EOE] Edge of Eternities

Oh, it's an Angel. Giada, Font of Hope fans, there you go, WotC finally just threw up their hands and said "screw it, we're in space" rather than demanding going full Segovian Angel every time to get that creature type. (I do wonder if this is a trend, because they've talked about how hard it...

    Sets [EOE] Edge of Eternities

2/1 vig for W is a good rate. The ability doing nothing if they have a land in hand that already enters tapped is... not optimal. I wonder if they considered just doing this as an Alchemy card to make them pick a spell if they had one, cause you can't do that in paper? Not that I'd like it if it...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

while it's a bit higher power, it's only a bit, and sometimes you really want to do it right away: The Cruelty of Gix

it's a space opera set, space opera rules mean humans are like cockroaches, we get everywhere

Humans can be in space! They have spaceships same as the Kavu and everyone else. Seriously though I don't think it's ever treated as lore-worthy that "there are humans here" in what I've read so far. They just kinda are.

Right? Like, I get how it's substantially worse than Luminarch Aspirant at doing specifically the counter thing, but... 3/2? That's an insane stat line!
  13. Seeker

    Sets [EOE] Edge of Eternities

...for those times when Luminarch Aspirant just wasn't killing them fast enough and/or you needed to get through a blocker? I mean, I get it, combo with station, but. I woulda played just the first mode in retail limited! I like the indestructible tricks lately! cool, if kind of... eminently...

yeah, this is the two drop: ("Biome-Chan Engineer", as a friend of mine instantly said) also some stuff I just think is neat: though I do wonder why Dyadrine has 1 toughness Goyf-style

You could pretend it's the Construct from Kayla's Command, the Spawn from Spawning Pit, the Pincher from Summoning Station, or, my personal favorite, good old Urza's Factory. Turns out it's not a very common set of stats to have!

    Sets [EOE] Edge of Eternities

First one's super cool, second one's just an above-rate piece of cardboard. Can't say I expected this theme, but also, it makes sense with Lander tokens and so on. Interesting with nonbasics. For those of you who are high enough on the power curve to have Field of the Dead, rejoice. I...

    Sets [EOE] Edge of Eternities

tell me, with a straight face, that you didn't instantly parse this as "uncommon" (the card itself is Inkmoth Nexus, whatever, that's not what's important here)

    Sets [EOE] Edge of Eternities

My closest guess is Yotian Frontliner, which is definitely about Standard-playable power level (I have played it, but obviously only in bad decks.) Rather than type synergies and unearth, Mite has "becomes tapped" and pump synergies. No clue where that puts it in the grand scheme of things. The...

they put a Stuffy Doll style combo right in the set! I get it, this is for Station, but it's also just a good aggressive card.

It's interesting to me that - while clearly still an EDH-centric design - it does something different in a 40 card format (you likely get fewer lands, but now you draw all spells) than a 100 card one. I wonder how much design space there is if they specifically aim for that?
