Sets (AFR) Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Previews- Dripping with Flavor, and Excess Words!

I was thinking with the aura thread posted yesterday...isn't this just a red Rancor Dueling Rapier I'm really enjoying it in some of my AFR drafts. I don't think it's obscenely powerful or anything, but I've been respecting the +2/+0 effect more and more from my boy Rimrock Knight plenty, and...

    General CBS

Not counting reprints (I added something like 35 cards from Timespiral Remastered! and that doesn't include the old border MH1 reprints in MH2 collector's boosters or the Mystical Archive cards), I've added 51 cards printed first in 2021 to my cube. You can get a nice visualization by adding...

Sets Ten Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Cards I'm Excited About for Cube!

Great read, and I appreciated your focus on interesting gameplay, as that's what I'm always looking to maximize in my cube regardless of the powerlevel I'm keeping.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I was interested in it, but having to always crew with two creatures is a big cost, and you don't get ETB effects. I dunno, I'm still interested in it, but I'm going to wait until someone else proves it's good first.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Agreed with @TrainmasterGT - it basically plays like a less consistent 5-mana Gideon, Ally of Zendikar that can occasionally hit twice in one turn. It's sweet, but not powerful and/or interesting enough for my list since it's at such a competitive part of the curve.

General (AFR) Dungeons and Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Testing/Includes Thread

Additional testing for the commander cards! Death Tyrant As discussed in the spoiler thread, I'm a big fan of this big eye. Love a recurring threat at the top of a curve, and plays nicely with multiple different archetypes in black I support. Maybe not too long for cube like so many other...

Sets (AFR) Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Previews- Dripping with Flavor, and Excess Words!

That's the cut I'm looking at. I think they're of similar power, and while I do enjoy Bontu, Death Tyrant is more flexible and fits into more decks, I imagine. The slot I'm considering it in is "2-drop colorless artifact ramp with upside", but for sure, those upsides are very different. I put...

Sets (AFR) Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Previews- Dripping with Flavor, and Excess Words!

Commander Cards from a Forgotten Realm....only one deck in out of four and there's already nearly as many quality cube cards as the main set!! This is a better Settle the Wreckage, right? This almost seems too powerful?? This isn't bad? A worse Fractured Identity in a less competitive...

General (AFR) Dungeons and Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Testing/Includes Thread

Continued from above! As I just mentioned, I run a heavy token theme in red, and wouldn't really consider this card otherwise. I really respect the extra damage from the Devil tokens here, making this, to me, a better comparison with the cube favorite Gideon, Ally of Zendikar's 0 ability than...

General (AFR) Dungeons and Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Testing/Includes Thread

My inclusions for the set! Please note, I care about the flavor of my cube enough but I know pretty much nothing about D&D beyond the very basic mechanics and yet I still think this set is neat. White Probably replacing either Glory-Bound Initiate or Imposing Sovereign, both of which are...

General Using Cube Cobra statistics, what are the most unique cards in your list?

Earthcraft is great, but it's pretty fair if you don't have a lot of enablers. Love to see others playing Contamination. Great card, and it reminds me of why I first started cubing (as does Hokiri, now that I think about it!). I used to run Devastating Dreams, but not surprised it's in the...

Sets (AFR) Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Previews- Dripping with Flavor, and Excess Words!

Dancing Sword just reminds me that I should really try to make room for Maul of the Skyclaves. Neat card though! Kind of wild that we're getting a new card type after being 2/3 of the way through spoilers? It's Level Up meets Sagas, so it's reasonably interesting as a card type, potential...

Sets (AFR) Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Previews- Dripping with Flavor, and Excess Words!

This is probably not a reasonable inclusion for me but I want it to be because it's recursive and lets you double-dip on your spells pretty easily...I don't think it costing U less for casting a spell helps much with a multi-color deck since blue is the most spell-heavy color. The recursion is...

Sets (AFR) Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Previews- Dripping with Flavor, and Excess Words!

Ebondeath is pretty easy to kill with spells, but your opponent is losing card advantage if they're not exiling. That recursion requirement is easier to meet than any Phoenix in history (new red skull head boi excepted maybe?)! Black decks in my cube and many others here have a lot of...

Sets (AFR) Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Previews- Dripping with Flavor, and Excess Words!

Pretty torn. Just off the back of Nadaar, Selfless Paladin, there's enough to justify their inclusion from a power level basis, and there's a lot of cool and interesting decisions they allow for, but the level of complication they bring... I'm already planning on creating and printing out a...

Sets (AFR) Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Previews- Dripping with Flavor, and Excess Words!

Slamdunk for me, wow. Did not expect to like this set so much, but there's some fun, evocative designs every other card spoiled! I lover recursive creatures, cards that don't mind getting milled or sitting in graveyards, etc. and the flash on this actually puts it over the top in terms of...

Sets (AFR) Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Previews- Dripping with Flavor, and Excess Words!

I'm obsessed with these modal cards with flavor text. I've changed my tune on this set. I absolutely love that this is a D&D set, and hope it leads to more creative card concepts for Magic in the future inspired by the successes they find here. Again, I've never really played D&D, but just...

Sets (AFR) Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Previews- Dripping with Flavor, and Excess Words!

Today we'll get enough spoilers that it should make everyone's mind up one way or another who's feeling ambivalent. For me, I've only played D&D for three sessions total. It just doesn't mean anything to me, and I've always been of the POV that Magic lucked out with the better artwork but D&D...

Sets (AFR) Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Previews- Dripping with Flavor, and Excess Words!

I'm pretty doubtful that dungeons will make my list, but I think it's an interesting enough mechanic. The fact that you can choose from all three of them is...weird design, I feel. We'll probably get more from the EDH decks too, right?

Sets (AFR) Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Previews- Dripping with Flavor, and Excess Words!

Rabblemaster Land! Unbelievably easy include for me, I'd want this in my list no matter my size or power-level because it's both so flexible and so fair. I'm legitimately in love. I'm trying to figure out if I like the showcase frame though -- it's aesthetically very fun, but it 1) doesn't...
