What I really like about the -1/-1 counters theme is that it's an interactive synergy, not an "I'm going to goldfish here on my side, try not to disturb me". Kulrath Knight can feel oppressive in the deck, though.

Agree with what you said, but Stoke the Flames and Baleful Mastery and Price of Fame to a lesser extent don't follow that logic. They can be cast with 0, 2 and 2 mana up respectively.

I also run: Serrated Arrows Grind // Dust Twinblade Slasher Ifnir Deadlands Torment of Venom Serrated Arrows and Grind // Dust in particular are very strong my cube.

That's a cycle...? What do they have in common besides having the most common mana cost and the fact they are good?

It was common to cast those on the opponent's creatures when they had removal open :D especially Galvanic Arc, killing the creature it enchanted. Looking at what was mentioned so far, seems like auras that mitigate card disadvantage are the way to go?
