My cube for having fun with

WB lifegain seems like it would be pretty cool, since the abundance of cards like ashes to ashes make having a ton of extra life sound really appealing.

    General CBS

I had a cool game, I kept a really slow hand and my opponent went: 3/1 for 2 -> athreos ->2/1 heroic guy -> another 2/1 of some variety... I was at, like 10 by the time I cast my first spell and he was 1 away from devotion for athreos.. fortunately I slammed doomwake giant and sent all those...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

What colors is the sac deck anchored in? Red black? Creatures like varolz, the scar-striped and falkenrath aristocrat are good with enchantments cause if you have some sacrifice fodder they're really hard to kill. Varolz can even make his own "enchantments" by scavenging everything in sight.

Card/Deck Ahadabans Newest Least Favorite Card Ever

Same here. Planeswalkers are totally my guilty pleasure in cube... I play them whenever it makes sense, and sometimes when it doesnt. Nothing tempts me to add a color (or two) more than opening Kiora or wildspeaker something... One time I decided to see if Liliana of the veil and Tamiyo would...

Card/Deck Ahadabans Newest Least Favorite Card Ever

I think the issue with your argument is the assumption that PWs have no "cost/drawback/setup required" as you put it. But they can be attacked.... that's the drawback. The cost is that you have to use resources to protect them by blocking, killing creatures you otherwise wouldn't, or using a +1...

    General Why not?

I feel the same way about Slayers' Stronghold, i really like the design, and how it bends late-game topdeck wars in your favor. Although it's likely nowhere near as good as township in a typical cube setting... I just can't bring myself to play with any of the cool spell lands because they're...

    General Why not?

^^This^^ I hate flooding... I only run 17 if I'm trying to cast griselbrand or something, and I usually get tsk tsks from my, admittedly small, playgroup.. seriously though, I think the 6 scry 1 mull rule makes it ok, at least that's how I rationalize it :P

    General Why not?

Why is the 23-17 land split such a hard and fast rule in cube, or even just limited in general? I've always found it very strange that Stormblood Berserker decks often run the exact same number of lands as Avenger of Zendikar decks.... I'm not saying its not correct, I've just never heard a...

Card/Deck Ahadabans Newest Least Favorite Card Ever

I agree. Isn't the issue here that "steal target something" with big upside is just too much of a tempo swing to be fun at three mana? Like, we all agree that coldsteel heart is far from being GRBS, but if you play one turn two on the draw, and your opponent untaps and daks it, you're pretty far...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

I love this... is there any way to push it a bit so its not just a naturalizable wrath of god? Also this is a fun design i stumbled upon: Hypnotic Imprisonment {1}{W}{U} Enchantment-- aura Enchant creature You control enchanted creature. Enchanted creature can't attack or block. And one...

General Drafting with 6 or fewer players

My group has found 5 of 9 works quite well, but recently we've been experimenting with a single 15 card pack to start off the draft. That way you get to look at a few more cards and see a few more signals before you really dive in and commit. The results have been good so far.

    General Templating Workshop

I love this idea, but I cant figure out how to properly template it. I'd like it to work within the confines of the existing Miracle mechanic, so that there aren't annoying rules interactions to deal with.... this is the best i've come up with: Will of the AEther 1U Sorcery Return target...

    General Why not?

Ooooh.. that's awesome. This sounds like the easiest way to implement something like what I was thinking. My idea was to have the extra basics be super broad, usable in almost any deck, like the basic lands, but I think I like this idea better. It's a lot like what Eric was saying, having access...

    General Why not?

Yeah, this is what I was thinking. The powerful cards would just dominate the game it'd we did something 2hg ish. Is there some way to alternate straw steps instead? So, like, draft a 20 card deck from each and then swap between drawing from each one.... sounds pretty weird. Also what about...

    General Why not?

I've been thinking it might be interesting if, in addition to basic lands, there were basic spells of each color that were usable by all players in a cube draft in the same way: things like Grizzly Bears, Divination, and Shock. This would fundamentally change both the drafting experience, and...

    General Why not?

This is an excellent expression of something I've believed for a long time. I wanted to make a thread where we could discuss all our half baked or particularly unorthodox cube ideas that might get shot down for "breaking the rules" or "not being magic" in a less open minded community.

General Print this Wizards! (So I can put it in my cube)

My cube runs two mutants prey but with proliferate before the fighting. It's been awesome, if a little narrow. Depending on your power level, I could see removing the 'with a +1/+1 counter' clause, possibly with a move down to sorcery speed (do more like prey upon w/ proliferate. But anyway...

    Jesse's Proliferate/Devotion/Miracles cube

Alex: I think you're right about leaving the sac pieces in. At this point I've taken out the super narrow cards like furnace celebration, but the rest of the more versatile sacrifice cards are staying. Particularly cards like pawn of ulamog and blood artist have proven their worth. Demonmail...
