Tallness is an objective measurement. When you call a card overrated, you presume to know the criteria by which those people rate cards, which is wholly subjective. Which, to reiterate, I think is something that can be done with a generally high degree of accuracy, I just don't like that...

I don't think payoff was being equated to viability here. And if it was, I don't think it should have been. Viability only counteracts complexity in the sense that format staples are more likely to already be understood by magic players.

the idea that cards can be under-rated or over-rated suggests that cubes are normalized enough that you can make generalized statements about how the majority of the community wants their cubes to function which is probably fairly accurate but I would still like to object to it

I believe that only applies to UB cards released as secret lairs to deal with complaints about gameplay exclusivity primarily. I don't think they're going to provide an in-universe equivalent for the entire lotr set they're making, for instance.
