Sets (LTR) The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth

I think it's more Rivendell that was protected by magic in the sense that enchantments are magic though. Lothlorien was protected by Galadriel, wearer of the white ring, one of the Elven rings of power. The dark influence of Sauron on the woods around Dol Guldur (when he was gaining strength as...

Sets (LTR) The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth

Sweet, then I will guess legendary creatures, artifacts, enchantments, lands, and sorceries. We've never seen a legendary instant, but we've seen six legendary sorceries. It just feels more natural for a sorcery to be legendary than an instant in my mind.

General Aggro-specific removal; or, Lightning Bolt vs. Lightning Strike

Lightning Bolt (and other flexible, cheap burn spells) are the perfect intersection of aggro's and control's aims and methods. A nice thought experiment is to consider how interested each archetype is in the following burn spells. Lava Spike Chain Lightning Strangle

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

I believe the defending player must meet all blocking requirements without breaking any blocking restrictions, if able. If the opponent has two creatures (edit: that are able to block), they must block with both. However, if they have only one, they can't block (because of menace), despite the...

    Design Diary: Cooperative Deckbuilder

So, do you have a shared energy pool, or does each player have a personal one? And how big is it for each turn? Also, if I read it correctly, middle right of the last pick costs 1 energy to cast, and gives you both a feather ingredient token and has you draw 2 cards? You could try to identify...

Yeah, I think I get what you're saying. My suggestion is directly at odds with the core game tension you are trying to achieve, I gather?

Oh, I just thought of a very "simple" default rule. What if you can exchange any three cards for two ingredients of your choice?

    Design Diary: Cooperative Deckbuilder

That is really one you ought to test to get a feel for it. It sure does sound more complicated, and in game design often less is more. The question is whether you want to invest complexity points into this part of your game. Other ways to tackle this would be to introduce ways to get rid of...

    Design Diary: Cooperative Deckbuilder

Another way to deal with this problem is to give players an suboptimal alternate action they can fall back on if the cards in their hands don’t match up with what they want to or can do. Ideally it would be something like trading a card from your hand to draw a random card from somewhere so you...

General Major change to Standard: Cards rotate slower

According to same source of the ban rumor: “Decision to transition to three year Standard was made a while back, but Midnight Hunt and Crimson Vow were completed prior to then. They considered waiting another year to make the change, but decided to move forward this Fall and just deal with those...

General Major change to Standard: Cards rotate slower

I heard this through the grapevine: Ban & Restricted discussion on Tuesday (5/16) episode of Weekly MTG. Fable of the Mirror-Breaker likely being banned.

    General Favorite Playest Cards?

Because the serpent is quite a bit more impactful and can't really be called a "curve filler" (even though it technically is).

General Major change to Standard: Cards rotate slower

I mean, there's a reason people call the parent company Ha$bro. If anyone doubted their motivations, surely the price point of Magic's 30 year anniversary edition and the huge D&D OGL debacle should inform you otherwise...

General Major change to Standard: Cards rotate slower

I mean, Standard has effectively spanned 2 years of products for the longest of times, there just have been different ways to determine which sets where legal when. Going to three years is a really impactful change, and one that gives cards a longer lifespan! Thumbs up :)

Sets (LTR) The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth

You get a like for the conclusion alone :') Yeah, I do agree that the bar for including mechanics that require additional explanation at the start of a draft is higher than mechanics that just explain themselves on the card, and even for those I try to include at least a handful. I do support...
