General How much do you love Magic right now

Besides being angry at WotC/Hasbro over the leaked OGL and follow-up lies* , New Phyrexia, or whatever it is called, does not interest me in the slightest. I don't enjoy Phyrexians, I don't enjoy the poison mechanic, I don't enjoy the needlessly wordy designs... The only Mirrodin set I ever...

    e) This question is hard to answer with the mild to severe disgust I have for WotC itself at the moment.

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Hey, I recognize that mood! My players are on board with trying out other ttrpg's after we finish the current 5e campaign, I don't foresee myself returning to D&D unless several stakeholders in WotC's management are sacked and the company becomes independent from Hasbro (and possibly...

Sets (ONE) Phyrexia: All Will Be One Previews

Sorry :( Mirrodin never really interested me anyways, I don’t care for poison or Phyrexians. Plus, WotC are being greedy pigs doing a “ruin D&D” speed run, while lying to us about it, making me even less inclined to buy their product. I think I will actually skip the prerelease this time.

Okay, hot take, maybe, but D&D being such a big name, even if it isn't perhaps the best system out there, has been a boon for the RPG hobby. It's always been a rather niche hobby, and it's only because D&D has become so popular that you can easily find other players to play with. In "old" times...

Paizo’s pulling the trigger on their “own” OGL variant! It’s going to be perpetual and irrevocable, and it’s not going to be owned by a publisher but by an independent law firm (to be transferred to a yet to be founded neutral foundation at a later date)! Link. They’ve also gone and said...

Hahaha, I can definitely agree that cleave is horrendous. It may be my least favorite keyword ever for how ugly and unreadable it makes the cards When I see kicker, I immediately shortcut to “oh, kicker, so pay extra for an improved or extra effect.” That’s a useful shorthand, that makes it...

So, I think the reason the keyword and the effect are disconnected in the text is because they apply at different times. The kicker cost is paid (or not) when casting the spell, but the effect of paying that kicker cost happens at another time, e.g. when the spell resolves, the creature enters...

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree here. Like, a lot. Because reminder text actually is ignored by those in the know, here's the difference between keyworded kicker and written out kicker. Exhibit 1A {2}{B} Sorcery Kicker {R} Target player discards two cards. If this spell was kicked, it deals 3...

I mean, Mirrodin before it had affinity, imprint, entwine, and equipment as new mechanics, which is more new mechanics than The Brother's War had. Then Darksteel added indestructible and modular, and Fifth Dawn had five of those six (with imprint and modular appearing only once) and added...

Are there really too many new mechanics each set, though? Like, The Brother's War had only four if you count Meld (on three cards) and Powerstones (not really a mechanic, but does feel like one). I think it's not so much that individual sets have too many keywords (though some certainly could do...

I think the ability is aptly named and am not planning on running it :p Also, I don't think I want an 8-line Mother of Runes in my cube regardless.

I agree. But giving white counterspells doesn't mean there will be more counterspells. For example, NEO had four counterspells, three at common, and one at uncommon. Give white one of those counterspells is all I'm saying.

I've been waiting for more white counterspells for years. I think the flavor fits so well for the color.

Actually, Suture Priest makes your opponents lose life based on their creature plays. These both feel like they are playing around in a very similar space to Skrelv's Hive, because all three pair a life loss mode with a life gain mode, albeit in different ways.
