    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

My opinion, this isn't worth a gold slot. But, snakes are cool so I can see the appeal. You might consider Sosuke's Summons. Pretty powerful CA engine in a snake deck. You may also consider the snake lords from Kamigawa block. I like Sosuke, Son of Seshiro (tie in with warrior tribal too if...

Genericco's Generic Cube Blog Spotlight Shitpost Megathread

Not sure if you are still running Puppeteer Clique, but I'll give you my 2 cents on how to play it because I don't think it's a combo card or a curve topper in aggressive builds. It's ideal slot is in control. Sounds wierd, but you are running a ton of removal and so you will always have...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I run her. She's high power though, be aware. She has negative synergy with proliferate which I actually really like.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Wolfir is a game-warpingly powerful card. I don't think my present list is running it for this reason. Paired with any sort of tutor, some decks (red decks in particular) just auto lose to this dude resolving. 12 power for 5 mana is just silly.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Maybe it's more like a U shaped curve then? Good at low power. Good at max power. Maybe not as good in the middle? Wolfir is certainly amazing with flyers (my favorite pairing with BoP). But Simic tempo isn't the only deck that wants that card (or that play). And without clamp, wolfir...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I'm on team "Simic Tempo is cool", but I think this slight disagreement is a power level thing. The higher your average card power level, the jankier Simic tempo gets in my experience. And at a certain point, it is not worth drafting because the nut version of the deck isn't better than a...

    General Fight Club

I tried him as I had fond memories of that card from OG Ravnica, but he wasn't worth 3 mana over here. 3/4 with no evasion for 3 is pretty lackluster for a gold card. So I'd personally only run this if you have a ton of activated abilities where the text on this guy will be super relevant. I...

I much prefer the bloodthirst guys to cards that trigger on attack. Because it's still a simple mechanic, but there's much more gameplay to it. Blood Ogre is actually pretty good. 3 power on a FS dude can remain relevant, especially if you have pump effects. I'm a bit biased though since I...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Yeah. That's bad IMO. They still get a permanent out of it. I know it's just a 1/1, but you are paying 3 mana at sorcery speed for that. Not really a fan. Snakeform is considerably better.

    General Fight Club

I feel like Whispers of the Muse was good back in 2005 or so. But I think the game has gotten way too fast for a 5U draw engine to be playable. Most cubes can't even get Capsize to work anymore, and that thing is way more powerful. Mystic Speculation seems really interesting and I'm tempted...

General What makes you cut an archetype?

Blink is a difficult one because it's technically combo. So much like tinker or natural order, finding a fair version is challenging. Both cards are 2 for 1'ing yourself so what you get has to be worth that. Things like momentary blink are the same thing. How much value is enough to justify...

General What makes you cut an archetype?

Exactly what Chris said. Ideally, you see a card that is interesting and you draft it. Then you notice cards that synergies and snatch them up. Next thing you know you've wound up loosely in an archetype the cube supports. But you didn't do it with that specific goal in mind. Problem with...

Beast within I found to be good in my old high power cube. 3/3's are much better in my current cube so I'm inclined to agree.

General Elegance in cube card selection

Agree with all the comments here. Years back someone on MTGS said they didn't run Gargadon because there was no reminder text on suspend. And I thought it was a silly reason at the time. But I've come full circle on that, especially with the all the new sets. I keep up on the game, and I get...

I completely missed the card Clear Shot. And given how well Rabid Bite has done (in very limited sampling admittedly), adding a targeted +1/+1 (yay! Heroic!) and making it instant for 1 more mana, I suspect this new version will be just as good if not better. Fight cards have generally been...

Great reports. Thanks for these. I really want to try Unsubstantiate now.

General Elegance in cube card selection

Maybe that's just another example of elegant card design but inelegant execution? Not to argue semantics (which is generally not super useful). I agree with your message though. Whether you label it elegance or not, considering if a card fits a format has to be a major part of the equation.

Nice suggestion on Halimar. I completely forgot about that card and it fits really nicely here.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

So, I've noticed a lot of TOL mechanics creeping into cubes these days (mine included). Things like Collected Company, miracle cards, etc. A card that I've always felt was just so close to being good enough but never quite there was Sage of Epityr 1/1's are bad. I know. But does the...

Still finalizing changes, but I'm probably swapping old Thalia for new Thalia and that frees up a 2 slot for Selfless Soul. And that means I'm cutting maybe Fiend Hunter (I think that is still in my list)?
