    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

It might be because I tend to run heavy graveyard themes, but non-targeted or non-random discard is often pretty bad. So Ravenous Rats is not doing enough for me. Now, if you want a similar effect, can I introduce you to Black Cat? The lightbulb went off for me what I don't like about Flesh...

    Modular Cube - 5 Colors

I'm more interested I think in where the balance points are. Specifically, let's say that your group trends heavily towards creature decks. For illustration, let us go with that 16 number. What this means is that if you run less than 240 creatures (assuming 450 card cube), there will be a...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I think that is my issue with it. Xathrid Necromancer is good enough, we didn't need an evasive one that only has more upside. Really like there being a conditional nature to those types of cards. Griffin Guide is only a two for one if it makes it into play the first time (you need a creature...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I'm in the same boat with carver. He's off but not always gamebreakingly and he's a sac outlet so his usefulness overshadows my power concerns. For now. I'll go on record though saying I dislike the card. I think it's the unconditional nature of the 2 for 1. Splashable. No compromise you...

    General Fight Club

Thanks. I may only have room for one and I was leaning Arbor. But I really like Llanowar from a nostalgic angle, so I don't know. I actually dislike Joraga as I've had him die to removal in response to level and I really hate losing essentially two turns to a darkblast. I was curious how...

Llanowar Elves vs Arbor Elf vs Joraga Treespeaker In what order do you guys put these from best to worst?

    Modular Cube - 5 Colors

I went ranting early on the increase in creature counts in cubes due to power creep, and while I definitely have done this, I looked at some other popular lists on cube tutor and the reality is not nearly what I was trumpeting. Most list are running 40%, maybe 45% at the most creatures to...

General When Is Fixing Too Good?

I first want to just comment that I love this forum. Even if I stopped posting, as long as I were even remotely still connected to this game I'd continue coming here just to read the back and forth. Well, at the risk of sounding like a broken record. I think there are other reasons why aggro...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I don't know honestly. Pingers are pretty powerful, and this one does 2 instead of the usual 1 (though the life loss is rough I agree). It's a red Omenspeaker with ping 2 take 3 instead of Scry 2. I'd say it's well above curve, but probably OK in the grand scheme of things.

    That's crazy good at 1R.

General When Is Fixing Too Good?

Over here, never. I think it's useless in aggro. By the time it's online, you should be close to winning the game (or past the point of really caring about LD). The only deck that I think wants this is one that fears something like a manland that they can't answer. So heavy sorcery speed...

General When Is Fixing Too Good?

My main problem with Tectonic Edge is that it never ends up in a deck list. Even though I agree with you 100% Eric that it has great application (on paper) against many strong non-basics, no one wants to run a colorless producing land just for that purpose unless it can do other things (like...

    Modular Cube - 5 Colors

Thanks for the reply. That is essentially what I'm going to try. I've always had some classic creatures that I felt represented good high picks that did enough but not too much for their cost. Karmic Guide is one of them. It has echo, so it's really just an expensive zombify, but because...

    Modular Cube - 5 Colors

Modular Cube Design 2.0 So at a high level, here are the areas I want to focus my efforts. I'll start with general ideas and drill into more specifics in the next section. I already have a rough list in excel that I'm playing around with, but it has a ways to go and I need to actually make...

    Modular Cube - 5 Colors

I'm notoriously bad about updating this post. I'm equally bad about updating cubetutor. I do all this in a spreadsheet and I'm simply happy with that. I mention this because the list in the original post is out of date and I'm not sure when I'm going to get around to updating it. With that...

General When Is Fixing Too Good?

Yeah, I'm completely with you on this. At 450, I'm now at 90 non-basics, and even that is a really tough pill to swallow. If I had to go up I'd revolt against myself. The fact is, non-basics are a lot less interesting to me than non-land cards, so cutting something cool like Dread Return or...

General When Is Fixing Too Good?

The thing about the excessive splash though is I don't agree it's a cheap opportunity cost. You are hurting your mana by including a single swamp in a deck that otherwise doesn't need swamps. And even if it's fetchable, your odds of being able to flashback lingering souls in a game is a lot...

General When Is Fixing Too Good?

Can someone post a sample mana base from one of these dominate 5 color decks? I'd really like to see it. Because I'm honestly skeptical that you can build a consistent 5 color mana base in cube even if you relied heavily on green and grabbed every single fixing land you saw (and how are you...

General When Is Fixing Too Good?

Yeah, the article was really eye opening when I first read it. If you did a light splash to play doom blade let's say, you'd still need 7 mana sources to reliably cast it by turn 4 (9 by T2). If you ran let's say Mardu with black as your third color, even if you ran exclusively cards with only...

General When Is Fixing Too Good?

I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum with this debate. I used to run the 11-12% fixing ratio and found it too light. I know this is something that the community feels is well established and all, but I just don't agree with it. The concept of having to choose fixing over cards that go in...
