General (SNC) Streets of New Capenna Previews

Yeah, it feels quite subpar compared to the other two we've seen so far. Especially since they said they wanted to push these to be exciting. The mini overrun can close games unexpectedly because of the trample, but the removal side is underwhelming, as is Raise the Alarm for {r}{g}{w} :/

It depends. Some artists allow use of their images for private purpose, others don't.

Hilariously, this could be kicker :') Another option is split cards, which work really well in multicolored sets, since you can at least cast part of the card if you don't draw all your colors! My bet is on domain, though, which frankly also works great. You can put it on monocolor cards, that...

General (CLB) Magic: The Gathering: Commander Legends: Dungeons and Dragons: Battle for Baldur's Gate Previews. Even the NAME is long this time!

If it fails to find, the opponent shuffles the rest of the cards they exiled into their library, which just so happens to be every card they exiled in this case.

They did actually print something similar in paper Magic before. Skullbriar, the Walking Grave kept its counters as long as it went to checkable zones. Card never broke any formats iirc. Also, yeah, Inchblade Companion looks completely printable in paper. Bloodforged Battle-Axe is a thing after...

I run nothing new from CMR, but I do run two reprints (Three Visits and Filigree Familiar).

I'm picturing Minsc poking Boo with a stick, silently sobbing: "Boo? Boo! You arright buddy?"

Hard pass, thank you. Also, flavor fail on the second ability. Sacrificing Boo?! Minsc's most treasured companion? Never! I'm not crazy about the return of dice rolling either.

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

This is why https://mpcfill.com/ has a Magic back with the word Magic replaced with the word Proxy (in the same style) (iirc).

Actually, there is one reason. The intensity stays increased when this leaves the battlefield, which means that bouncing and replaying it or reanimating it doesn't reset the clock. I'm not saying this design should exist, but it does do something that can't be done with charge counters.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Topplegeist plays pretty good, especially if you run fetches and a small spells package in white.

Sweet! Thanks for taking the time to do this! I love the formal language Magic uses, so indulge me while I pick these designs apart :) At first I was like, this card is already very wordy and it doesn't matter much, but I agree it does play a bit sloppy. In theory you'ld need to resolve each...

To be fair, that's a luxury they can't afford in paper Magic, and even there we get some templating errors every now and then. I think their paper product sets a higher bar than is necessary for a digital product, but it does condition us to notice gaffes when they occur.

Dear lord, you're harsh! Do you have some examples of especially poorly worded cards? There's some weird mechanics in the digital design space, but none of them really stood out as poorly worded. I might have missed something though.

    The Podcast / Audiobook thread

The only podcast I've listened to is A Podcast of Unnecessary Detail with my favorite stand-up mathematician Matt Parker, who's joined by Steve Mould and Helen Arney to talk about bits of random trivia tied together by the episode's topic/word. I just learned a second season is coming, so this...

I think it has a lot to do with image compression to make sure Arena keeps running (relatively) smoothly. E.g. Wingsteed Trainer

Aight, aight, I got u! Though, to be fair, seeking for card categories that make up only a small percentage of your deck is a lot less efficient than searching for them.

I mean, a lot of these cards need more adjustments, but seek is definitely a doable mechanic in offline Magic. The main difference, obviously, is that in paper Magic you can't search for specific cards without revealing them. That part of the mechanic really is something you can only do online...
