    General Your Evolving Meta

Great post Lucre. You hit on something that I totally neglected for a long time - mana curve (specifically having enough 1 and 2 CC cards). That was a problem for a long time, with guys having a hard time filling their curves. Everyone had an overabundance of 3 and 4 drops, but when it came...

Yeah. Agreed. That thing is nasty.

I didn't go, but that is what I heard. And frankly, I can't imagine that type of abstract logic being taught in law school. What purpose would it serve? What jury (or judge for that matter) would understand you? I ended up in IT. And if there's one thing that has become clear to me over...

When I read this card the first time I was immediately reminded of the logic problems on the LSAT. This card is almost intentionally worded to be hard to understand. You really shouldn't have to jump through mental hoops to figure out what happens when you play a card. This game has enough...

    Article ChannelFireball: Utility Land Draft

So I pitched the utility draft idea to friends (finally), and there were conflicting opinions on it. The primary concern is adding time to the draft (which most feel is already too long). I really like the idea of the utility draft though because I can play many interesting lands that really are...

I wasn't watching it closely enough to say. The graveyard deck problem I was having had more to do with the fact that I over-supported re-animator and had very few ways to deal with those threats. I took some enabling cards away (mostly the fast versions like Reanimate and the broken ones...

I'll take "horribly worded removal spells" for $1000, Alex.

I would agree completely with the importance of removal, and that has become more and more clear as my cube has evolved. Because we are playing with 50-60% (or more) rare cards, essentially everything that gets played can practically win the game on it's own if left alone. So games would devolve...

It can. You just need the morph to have a lot of upside when it un-morphs. And to some extent you may need to limit removal to minimize the tempo loss if (when) your morph gets blown up. This is why I think morph works much better in regular limited. I run a crap load of removal in my cube. If...

Well, a 3/1 for 2 mana (with the upside of also being a morph) would probably be too good for 2 colorless mana. And by comparison, a 1/3 would be quite a bit weaker IMO (so the "aggro" morph would be better than the "control" morph - maybe that'a an issue and maybe it isn't though). You...

I agree with this. Really they should have had morph by more dynamic and more efficient. Like instead of it being a 2/2 for 3. Maybe make it cheaper and give you two modes. Something like a 2/1 for 2 or a 1/3 for 2. You'd need tokens or something to indicate what type of morph you made...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Stoke the Flames is better because it's unconditional. The problem with Devouring Light is that it requires attacking or blocking creatures. And while that is fairly common, sometimes you need to waste a creature that isn't attacking or blocking.

Isn't Lightning Angel good enough as is? 3/4 flying vigilance haste is no joke. She would be a windmill slam auto-include for me at 2RW (as is I'm running the inferior Firemane Avenger). Lightning Angel is only excluded from my cube because I don't run tri-color cards.

I'm not a fan of that card at all. As if quad B wasn't bad enough, you need a heck of a lot of cards in the yard to make the cost worth the effect. I'd much rather just cast Tombstalker and have a 5/5 Flying fattie. A bunch of 2/2 tapped zombies is a pretty bogus reward for all that would...

I'm a big fan of the Raid mechanic actually. Nice flavor. Hopefully they print more cubable cards with it.

Add Pestermite and a blink engine and you have a combo deck that will pretty much never come together (but the one time in a hundred when it does will be a great story).

Wow. I hear you totally on all this. You hit on a few things that resonate deeply with me. 1. I love old Zelda games (I've passed all of them) but I am not a fan of the new ones. Skyward Sword was TERIBAD. The one before that was only less bad (the one where you become a wolf, can't...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I'm going to throw it back it. My hope is that I can entice another one of my players into drafting some heavy/mono black goodness. Not sure it's going to work though. I really don't like Erebos, so the only real incentive to run heavy black in my cube is stuff like Necro, Merchant...

For me, Dragon Age Origins was a homerun. Probably my favorite RPG of all time. DA2 was a let down for me, but not as bad as most made it out to be. Historically, I was a huge Zelda fan. Ocarina of Time I've passed more than once. I'm not huge into sci-fi video games strangely enough, so I...
