Actually I run the scars fastlands with basic land types, which are, I would argue, loads better for cube than these. I like the new lands, but they are best in midrange and control decks, and I like mana fixing best when it's beneficial to aggro decks, as fixing in and of itself already...

Looks like they're less poisonous this time around, but I tend to agree. I will say that I thought allies were extremely fun to play in constructed formats, be it casual or competitive, but they're pretty much useless for cube.

I quite like Fiendslayer's newfangled protection as well. I wish they'ld keyworded that as the new protection-like ability and phased out protection entirely.

Not that that's a good design principle, because that also leads you to include fun and fair cards like Sol Ring, Skullclamp, Ancestral Recall, Library of Alexandria, Grave Titan, etc.

Why would you want to deny your opponent the chance to cast his spells. To create fun games? Because if so, you're doing it wrong.

Does haste necessarily have to be Jund now that it's evergreen or whatever? Does lifelink necessarily have to be Orzhov now that it's evergreen or whatever? Does vigilance necessarily have to be Selesnya now that it's evergreen or whatever? I could go on, but the short answer to your question...
