Coppersmith is a cool card but pretty weak in only the base set, which I'm sure they assume a lot of people will buy as a standalone game.

I don't think that's really true most of the time. A 3-cost card may or may not be as strong as a silver in the early game, but many 4-cost cards are stronger than a silver.

I think Aston means that it's not purely an engine building exercise (correct me if I'm wrong). I agree with Onder that almost always there are at least 2 or 3 cards that you want to synergize together, but oftentimes it can be better to spend some energy buying a few other cards--particularly...

    Breath of the Wild (Review)

Based on your description in the article, it sounds very similar to my experience with Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. There were some fun storylines for a while, but eventually it devolved into side quests and closing portals and it started to feel formulaic.

I finally received The Great Zimbabwe a couple months ago and have played it about 5 times so far. Thank you for the advice FSR, it really is fantastic. I wish more games could pack in so much interesting gameplay in 90 minutes. I decided to pick up Imperial after that, but we haven't gotten...

    Breath of the Wild (Review)

I'm still only about 6-8 hours in, so I'll have to get back to you on my opinions later. Personally, this is the direction I've been wanting Zelda to go in for a long time now. A Link Between Worlds was absolutely stellar, and had a similar design approach.

General Oh god it's my two least favorite topics in magic

It might also be useful to consider--in a game as complex as Magic--how many different axes of gameplay there are to each individual's enjoyment, and that each of these axes are truly a spectrum. For an example of spectrum, I wouldn't consider myself "casual" or "competitive", as I am...

General Decks Not Cards--Synergy and Power Design

I mean, G&G is decent value in a graveyard-themed deck even if you don't have zombies. I think it would be a lot more realistic to look at the card that way and if you happen to hit a zombie it's just gravy. Edit: I wish there were more creatures with subtle ETB effects like this that you...

General Decks Not Cards--Synergy and Power Design

As I’ve said in the past, I think you can design with both philosophies in mind. I suppose I would have to say that my “official” intent is to design with synergy > individuality, but with the goal of generic goodstuff decks having a win rate of 40-45%. In my opinion, you can satisfy both the...

General Why is the national cuisine of the Netherlands fries?

I've played one full game of Civ6 so far and it was less fun than Civ4. I'm not sure if I was doing something strange or if I just don't understand the flow of the game yet, but everyone hated me diplomatically, and when a nation would go to war with me I would make a few horseback archers and...

I sort of like the idea of a format filled with creatures with activated abilities. Anti-Hearthstone (no offense Hearthstone luv u) Chris, you've been on fire lately, no joke.

I somehow never noticed before that good Crovax has Selenia, Dark Angel's ability. I wonder what the story is there.

Love this card. It's also great with Prowess, Heroic and Constellation.
