    Sets (STX) Strixhaven Testing/Includes Thread

sure, but the lower the power level and less emphasis on efficiency and speed, the more space there is for exploratory drafting and discovery by wacky strategies I mean things like a simic ramp deck built around dredge and splendid reclamation more so than black aggro :D

Those wacky unexpected decks are more planned for here and the power level is lowered to make them viable

Yeah a lot of what I’m reading here is just apples and oranges. Which is fine! We all have our personal set of principles and methods of card evaluation that we’ve come to rely on that are sympathetic to our design goals. I enjoy reading funch’s perspective....a lot of it doesn’t resonate with...

    General Poll: Shroud & Hexproof

Same here. Shroud is a pretty interesting keyword in practice to me. I never cared for the Tiger, but the others are sweet. Some others from the annals of time that I like: nimble mongoose gigapede multani, maro-sorcerer Which are all obviously outclassed these days. I have a deep, profoundly...

I agree that it often feels out of place in most of my Izzet decks. Pyromancer is best in Boros in my experience. It's biggest weakness is that it doesn't pivot particularly well into black and green. Sedgemoor Witch could help that in black, but it's pretty antithetical to what my black decks...

I ask my opponent how many cards in hand for the mind game factor alone. You usually need to do it at a mildly important decision point in a game or before playing something. You can leverage the question to bluff having a response to their cards, or having a threat you are holding back, that...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

It's definitely within the same ballpark as languish and death cloud in terms of power. I've never really cared for it, because it's both mana intensive and doesn't allow for many interesting ways of breaking its symmetry (outside of recursive creatures and blink?).....which is a combination I...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

This is pretty interesting. I didn't know it existed....I like how it incentivizes dredge and discard mechanics in tempo/aggro strategies. It can also be a pseudo Ophidian in a slower deck. A little too clunky for my uses, but it feels like it could find a home in your cube.

Thanks, bud! I’ll be okay. Just a lot of stress and big life things intersecting at one time

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Definitely not a staple, but I’m not sure we can call any card a staple anymore on this forum. It depends on your design goals and power level. I don’t like skyfisher because it’s the best blink card. I like it because of it offers a unique set of applications and versatility. I don’t run...

Yeah the self-bounce is what differentiates itself. It’s a nice compliment to flickerwisp imo

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Man I looove skyfisher. - Great baseline evasive aggro body - Reuse an etb creature - Can bounce itself for multiple cast triggers: clarion spirit, vengevine, shrine of loyal legions, etc - Can bounce sagas - Can trigger landfall - Reuse an etb land like the hideaways - Returning a land has...

I've been meaning to reply to this...I've been struggling with major life burn out, and I've had zero mental space lately for engaged cube talk. But I've dealt with similar issues with my cube, and I have a lot of thoughts. I think my network of players sounds more skilled than yours on average...

rielle, the everwise Is easily my favorite izzet card right now. In a lower powered context you can run more discard-centric mechanics like cycling and madness...great with looting and straight gas with wheel effects. Just a lot of fun and has a ton of play to it given proper support The...

Speaking of clubs. I unfortunately don't have much time to devote to writing and reading up on cube theory. If someone could just tell me which party the GCC aligns with, I'll happily pay the entry fee and like everyone's posts.
