    General [STX] Strixhaven Spoilers

Yeah, but Kaldheim was spoiled across more than an entire month with a break for the Christmas-New Year's holiday week-and-a-half. (December 15-January 19!! https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/feature/where-find-kaldheim-previews-2020-12-15) I'm much happier having the spoilers take...

    General [STX] Strixhaven Spoilers

Yup. I wish they'd spend more of the movies getting at the heart of who the characters are and why they do what they do in the way that Thor: Ragnarok breaks down both Thor and Hulk. Contrast that with Iron Man 3 and how clumsily they handle the emotional storyline of Tony Stark dealing with...

    General [STX] Strixhaven Spoilers

For contrast, I happen to really like the flavor and I'm really glad that WotC is both pushing the envelope and that they're pushing it in this direction. Specifically, I appreciate how they're explicitly calling out a lot of different magical academy tropes AND addressing school-based tropes...

General Introducing the Cube Map – find out how your cube fits within the Cube Universe!

The Return of the King. ...that's it. That's the whole post. Okay, I lied. You're so much better than Denethor (and hopefully a tidier eater) and have a good shot of winning it back with eight whole months to go. I do think that there's been a big influx of users over the last year...

    General [STX] Strixhaven Spoilers

If you're worried about space, making the house rule that Lesson = Arcane might be a relatively elegant way to stitch things together. Also, between this and Runes I'm wondering if WotC is going to be more amenable to using noncreature subtypes in the future. I'd imagine that this results from...

    General [STX] Strixhaven Spoilers

https://riptidelab.com/forum/threads/tinkerers-cube-mtga.3210/ This thread did a pretty good job summing it up. It's a pretty typical 'first cube, midrange/greedy goodstuff' style. Not miserable, but not particularly inspiring.

    General Fight Club

Very. Very very. He seems like he's a good combination of a lot of archetypes, but mostly he just wins games if unanswered. The 'Protection against Humans' clause is also really powerful, probably the single best 'Protection from creatures' because he can't be killed by Palace Jailer, etc. AND...

    General Alternative Win Conditions

Being able to win at instant speed is a lot better than winning at the start of your upkeep. Also, dang, I completely forgot about "Villain Loses" cards, great catch!

    General Alternative Win Conditions

I think I've shared my cubing origin story in parts before, but never from the start and never in a single place. It all started in the far-flung mists of March 2018 with the release of a set called "Masters 25." Like many others, I was drawn back in to Magic by the promise of seeing old friends...

Sounds like the perfect card to squadron to me. ....actually, now I want to do that.

    General [STX] Strixhaven Spoilers

I think it's possible that Magecraft is the new Evergreen mechanic, and the copying bit could just be to give it some life in eternal formats. Or alternatively this could be a more general change in consistency. Looking back through Scryfall, the last time Standard saw "whenever you cast an...

    General [STX] Strixhaven Spoilers

Liliana also looks super sickly in those first three cards, whereas Professor Onyx looks like she's eating three meals a day, bathing regularly, getting time to relax, not being tormented by demons, free of ancient cursed artifacts, etc. ------- That is some heinous alternate art. Actually...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

It was, but the key difference is that with Tragic Arrogance YOU choose what lives, whereas Single Combat says that you choose what of your stuff lives and your opponent chooses what of their stuff lives. So it's a lot worse :/ The "can't cast more critters" bit is nice, though!

Danny Trejo is super into Magic, oddly enough. There was a commercial for Arena with him and Day9 a couple years ago. Edit: (actually)fixed the link.

    General The Sets of 2021

Sorry for the double-post, but I think we're not quite seeing eye-to-eye here. I've played a lot of RPGs, not just D&D--Champions, several branches of Fate, Shadowrun, Lancer, Everyone Is John (yeah, definitely not another game I'll play again now that I look back at it. But an interesting...

    General The Sets of 2021

A lot of us who've started cubing within the last year have our cubes solely digital due to *recent events*. Plus, there's also the argument that buying singles isn't buying from WotC (though if you look at the economics you totally are, just indirectly).

    General The Sets of 2021

Oh, absolutely--everyone I've met in person playing D&D is wonderful, and I've been playing for closing in on two decades now. (Yikes.) I was mostly talking about the people who write the sourcebooks, who seem like a fairly small group of people predominantly made up of middle-aged guys who have...

    General The Sets of 2021

Echoing what Onderzeeboot said, that's really foul. I knew that D&D was a crusty old boys' club, or at least had guessed, but had no idea it was that bad. Thanks for writing this all out, LadyMapi and Japahn! I agree that the tactical puzzle in D&D gets really boring after a while, which is part...

    General The Sets of 2021

Okay, I have to bite. What is it about 5e that chips your teacups? I've never played it, but it seemed like 4e bones with 3.5e meat over them. For reference, I played a small amount of 4e, a lot of 3.5e as a kid, and in college I either played 1e (yes, really.) and something that was half...

    General Timespiral Remastered Timeshifts

Again, don't want to put words in people's mouths, but I think that the joke just came up because the image was displayed in the thread. Given Velrun's casual tone and the professed lack of belief in the joke, it seems reasonable that this was a spur-of-the-moment observation that Velrun found...
