    Agree with Blacksmithy about Channeler. I would agree Champion is a fine cut as well, although I think Mulldrifter is also pretty dopey in multiplayer. The one card I wouldn't cut here is Ethereal Investigator because this is a Cube where it can actually provide its full value.

    I think it's probably the "downside" of losing 1 life every turn. Many players can't get past downside abilities unless they've already been taught the card is good. Herald is fine, but it's not such a slam dunk that people who have never played with it will look past the life loss trigger.

    Yeah turns out making Mutate work took a lot of time away from playtesting the Companions. I believe Mark Rosewater's #1 takeaway from designing Ikoria is that the design team shouldn't put two mechanics that are incredibly difficult to balance in the same set.
