    General Showcase 2021

Strixhaven has actually had a pretty decent impact on eternal formats. Expressive Iteration is one of the top 30 most played spells in both Modern and Legacy right now, and it's the 5th most played spell in Pioneer. Prismari Command is seeing quite a bit of play in modern as well as the U/R...

It just looks like him. Tezzeret was born several thousand years after the Brother's War.

Because the original block sold poorly and they want people to focus on the new stuff and not the "more of the same" part. It's like with Theros: Beyond Death, where the set was themed around the underworld and sold as the "underworld set," but then still focused heavily on the Therran...

    General Showcase 2021

Just wanted to point this out, but MaRo on Blogatog has basically been saying that the Cyberpunk part of the new Kamigawa is not indicative of the entire set. This answer and this answer seem to indicate that some of the Feudal Japan elements of the original set will be returning here as well...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I second this, Treacherous Blessing is great!

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Losing 2 life per card in hand is just way too much of a risk to make this card worthwhile. Demonic Pact "works" as well as it does because players have a decently large window to reset their pact. Demonic Lore doesn't provide that same opportunity- you basically have to kill it the same turn...

    General Showcase 2021

I'm guessing the set ends up being relatively low power like Adventures in the Forgotten Realms was, minus a couple of juiced Commanders that will be decent in EDH but ultimately not strong enough for Modern. AFR sold extremely well despite it's incredibly low power level and lack of...

Mordor's Cube (The Ship of Theseus)

Great post Parker! The optimal strategy here might simply be only including one of the cards you mentioned here as weighting the format towards UG. Just having, for example, Uro in the Cube makes UG a bit stronger, but it doesn't make the meta UG oriented. Now instead of having several cards...

    General Custom Cards: Perception

I know that my playgroup loves the custom cards I make. I don't use them every draft, but when I have, my players have enjoyed them. I don't know how random people would feel about customs, but I doubt they would have a problem with it since you're still giving them access to free Magic via Cube.

    General Fight Club

Timeless Witness costs way too much mana up front to be good in most Cubes IMO. Most 4-drops need to have some beef (or bring some friends) in order to make the cut in most environments, and Timeless Witness just doesn't.

    Dom's Stream of Consciousness

Great writeup as always, Dom! I think it's funny this guy ended up in the "tokens" part of the discussion since she's both one of the most unique synergy pieces in the set but also just one of the best Cube cards in general. The mill ability can help fuel a variety of strategies and cards...

    General Fight Club

Both of these cards actually kind of suck if your Cube has even halfway decent proactive strategies. The most appropriate 4-drop instant speed draw spell for your power level is probably actually this boy: Hieroglyphic Illumination This card is legitimately way better than FoF because it is...

    General Fight Club

While we’re on the topic of White cards… Temporal IsolationVS.Silkwrap I’m thinking I like Wrap a little bit more due to it’s simplicity, but Isolation seems like it could easily be the superior card from a power level perspective. Most of the threats in my Cube have a mana value of 3 or less...

    Sets (MID) Innistrad: Midnight Hunt

Skinrender is a Phyrexianised Nim, the Mirran/New Phyrexian native Zombie species. They look a little different than normal Zombies from across the multiverse because they have a metal plate in their head that destroys their eyes.

    Sets (MID) Innistrad: Midnight Hunt

Wow, I can't believe I missed two pages of a spoiler thread. Oh well, guess I can give my thoughts now. This card is of an appropriate power level for a lot of Cubes. While it doesn't necessarily break into fairmaxed Cubes, it fits reasonably well into plenty of environments a step or two below...

    General Removal density

That's exactly what I was trying to say.
  18. TrainmasterGT

    General Removal density

As long as you’re still drafting the whole Cube, your players are still getting cards in the same ratio, they’re just getting more of them. The primary difference is that the resulting decks are going to be more consistent. I would say that you only need to scale back on removal if your players...

    General Removal density

Right now, I am at 75 removal spells out of 311 nonland cards, which equates to 24.11% removal. I included Thoughtseize effects that could hit creatures in this calculation. My removal As-Fan is 3.1245.

General Do you enjoy playing Chess?

I like Chess. I'm not that great at it, but it's fun to play.
