That is really something that I never pay much attention to, but I should. I might be perfectly happy with all my Opts and Gravediggers, but it’s also important to have some cards like that to make drafters go "wow" (Wilson, 2005).

Talking of mono color support, one thing to do this are heavy hybrids. Those are hybrid cards that you could, for example play in {W/U}, mono {W} or mono {U}, but wouldn't work really in a white or blue deck with other colors. I like to have one of these for each color combination, but I am not...

Sound interesting. Do you have a thread or something where one could follow along the process?

The fairer the environment, the more likely you are playing the Troll for it's mana cost. Sure, I am too discarding it to my Merfolk Looter turn three, but then I'l bring it back later as a hard to kill 8/8. It's a very elegant design, even though it is wordy, as it just fuels itself. The only...

I've been very happy with this baby, using it for all three of my cubes. It's big enough for a 500 card cube with tokens and if your cube is a bit smaller, you also get the basic lands in there. All those considering I'm on double sleeving. For my main cube, I use a very old and ugly yugioh...

I would give it a try. The 5/5 is usually big enough of a problem that the game progresses relatively fast. Like, you remove it or you are dead soon to it and it's many minions.

The 'normal' ones I'm running: Ant Queen Nessian Game Warden Thelonite Hermit Ant Queen is the truth. It has no etb but can take over games where it is not answered. Also scales. People love it. Maybe it also helps that I have a bunch of hand drawn tokens of ants with party hats and cocktails...

I'd play Blast from the Past over Murder every day. It's a three-for-one, usually, really helping red controlling decks to get the advantage. Also, Bone Shredder has a lower ceiling than Murder, but it adds blink, sacrifice and recursion synergies, that would make me want it over murder in many...

Personally, I think WotC is already muddying the color pie a bit too much. Mostly to please commander players' desire to have card draw and ramp in all colors, and have them be great at the long game. Sure, I do appreciate some of the innovations, like red's impulse draw or a third color being...

The question is also, imo: Should every color get cantrips like this? In many ways it feels like a color pie break to me. Usually greens card draw is tied to creatures or it gets those cantrips, where you can get a creature or land, sometimes enchantment, from the top X cards of your library...

Mishra's Factory Treetop Village Gargole Castle Quicksand Cabal Pit Barbarian Ring The manlands are really cool with loam as recursive creatues. Gargoyle Castle is also quite decent in a lower power cube. Can't say much on Quicksand yet, but I imagine it could help the lands.deck against...

You can minimize that by having very good ramp enablers and very tame top end cards, so that you can pull that synergy off earlier without dying.

The fact that stronger gruul cards exist doesn't mean that Worldsoul's Rage isn't a great cube card, right? I mean, we're not at mtgsalvation here. The card is an elegant design with a decent floor and and a highly synergistic ceiling. It's also one of the somewhat rare cases these days where a...

It's a very cool design. If I had three or four gruul slots, I would consider it.

I've been tracking draft data from my cube for ten drafts (I know, it's still a very small sample size) and mono decks are making up ~16% of the decks drafted. Three color decks are ~17% with the remaining 67% being straight two colors. If we take a look at how successful they are, here is how...
